I threw one of the showers and was a guest at the other. She was surprised that I brought a gift to both showers, but I didn't want to show up empty handed. I like baby showers/wedding showers etc. I think they're fun :) I agree that I would split the budget. She actually asked me herself to come to the one her MIL hosted because she felt uncomfortable being around all her in-laws since she didn't know them very well. I went, but did not bring a gift.
