I was there for 4 days (csection) and it was completely overwhelming. We had my mom, sister, sister in law and boyfriend, my inlaws, aunts, uncles, cousins and their kids, grandparents, friends, people from work.. It was just too much. A lot of them I didn't even know were coming. My grandparents were in the waiting room, so afterwards we had my parents his parents his sister my brother and best friend visit. The next 2 days both moms stayed all day, and we had visitors in and out all day and evening. I loved it I had a csection so it kept my mind off the pain. Bil came the first night. I was there for two nights and the time with just three of us was wonderful. </p> <p>I thought I would be sad that we didn't have many visitors since our families aren't local (besides Bil) but it was perfect. I had only lived in the area a few months and didn't really have any local friends. D's extended family visited a few weeks later. </p> <p>This time I will likely have more. I had him at 3pm and as soon as we were moved to a room we had 11 people show up! It was very overwhelming. Next time I need a few more hours for just us. After that first night people would call/text and ask when they could come and that was ok. We were only there for one night. They wanted to keep me two nights (not really sure why, both me and the baby were perfectly fine!) but we left after one. My MIL was with me while I was in labor (I was induced so I was in the hospital for 2 days) because my husband had to work. Once I went into active labor, my husband stayed with me. Once the baby was born, my MIL, FIL, SIL, and BIL were there. My family lives about 6 hours away, so my mom came a couple of days after the baby was born to help. My parents were in the hospital when I gave birth (but not in the room) so they were the first to stop by. Then my SIL came. The only other person to stop by was a good friend of mine who was due the month after me and happened to be at the hospital at the same time due to worries of preterm labor with her twins. </p> <p>I expect the same when I give birth next month. I was too emotional and upset after J was admitted into the NICU immediately following birth (meconium aspiration, had to stay 7 days on antibiotics but otherwise totally fine!) and did not want to see anyone! My in-laws came bc they live in the town and brought me a couple things i needed from home. We went home the next morning so no time for any more! I was fine with the visitors as I was still all excited and on a high from giving birth, and it was really nice to have familiar faces in the slightly cold hospital environment. My parents and brother were in the waiting room and came in after I was cleaned up. On friday, my mom came up after work, my aunt came in the evening and also drove my mom home. On Saturday morning, we were discharged. Sunday my parents and best friend came to my house. </p> <p>My inlaws were not able to visit us until about a week after she was born because the whole family got hand/foot/mouth disease from my niece.</p> <p>I kinda wish I had more visitors on Friday, Jon had gone home to check on our dog, shower and nap. I was alone most of the day and he opted to sleep at home on friday night with the dog. (The hospital is at the end of our street, If i needed him, he could have come in 5 minutes). Everyone found out I had the only suite in the hospital and they literally set up shop for the 3 days I was there. I'm pretty sure there were close to 20 people in my room at one point. But all of our family lives close, and we had a ton of friends stop by. The night of (Will was born at 7 PM) we had my parents, my husband's parents, my brother in law and his fiancé, my uncle in law and two others. They arrived around 4:30 and I insisted they get to come back to the delivery room right after Will was born to see him. I was delirious with happy. Those were quick visits. The next day, Sunday, all those same people plus husband's grandparents all came at different, coordinated times throughout the day for 1-2 hour visits each. It didn't occur to me to have it any other way, and I ended up loving it. We have so many great sweet pictures from Will's first day with so many who love him.
