I like to think that LO "reads" it before she goes to bed. Definitely not too stimulating but sometimes helps calm her down to put herself to sleep. That said, she doesn't need it. Half the time for MOTN awakenings I put her facing the other side of the crib and she can't see it and it doesn't effect her ability to go back to sleep.</p> <p>ETA: TBH she loves looking at the (non moving) ceiling fan almost more! We used it to entertain her, not to fall asleep to. Tiny Love makes awesome mobiles with really interesting movement and my dd1 loved staring at it. At some point I did try a Lamaze mobile that had a light and slow flapping wings and LO got so overstimulated that he wouldn't stop screaming! Now he just snuggles with his Sleep Sheep and Jellycat lovey. We do keep a Blabla mobile over the changing table, though, not that he cares. It doesn't move or anything. And she wasn't in her crib until she was just about 6 months old. At which point she was mostly sleeping on her side/stomach anyways. He never really paid attention to the mobile part. Once he could stand in the crib I just took that part off and used the music part. We used it all the way up until we moved him into a twin bed! It doesn't have noise or a motor, and it's really just decorative. He didn't notice it at all for MONTHS. When he was around 9 or 10 months old he started to enjoy looking at it when he was awake.
