We kept clogging up the main line and my dad hated it. We actually had 3 lines so we could have our dial up (woot!) and fax not occupy a real phone line either. Then, early in high school we needed a separate phone line for the internet, so my parents had that line routed into my room to give it to me and keep me off their home/business line. I was big on asking for a new privalege as a gift - not the item itself (which I would save my money for). That strategy seemed to work for me as I ended up with a TV, phone with private line, and computer in my room eventually! I could talk on the phone wherever the cord would reach. We didn't get a cordless until I went to college. I would take the phone and stretch the cord around the kitchen wall, into the hallway and into the basement entryway.
