I did in terms of my labor, but the recovery/early days was very difficult as my hospital is "baby friendly" and pushed bfing extensively even when it was clear my daughter was starving and losing weight like crazy. I begged and pleaded for formula and it was only given to me when she was admitted to nicu for jaundice and dehydration and the dr ordered it. Next time I will be much more forceful and bring my own formula.

No, it was actually pretty bad. First time c-section and lots of "hospital procedure" stuff that got in the way of beginning our BF relationship. Second time, I'm pretty sure the whole hospital arrival/bright lights/annoying staff actually made that part of my labor longer. Luckily the recovery room and staff were nice. I honestly would prefer not to have another hospital birth but I know DH would never, ever agree.

Delivered at the same hospital twice and overall I was happy both times. However, there were some things that I didn't like. The LC are only there M-F from 8-5 so it was more than 24 hrs after delivery that they came to see me either time (DD was born at 4:54PM and DS was born on a Sunday); the LC arrived as DH was pulling the car to the entrance for us to go home so they really didn't offer any help. I had one PP nurse each time that was just horrid (not the same nurse).

I had a good experience. The only thing I didn't appreciate was one of the lactation consultants was really abrasive. I also wish I would have known I was going to have a c section so I could have asked for immediate skin to skin.

Yes, my hospital birth experience was amazing! I was able to have a natural, pain-med free birth and the nurses totally supported myself and my doula. My OB was great too, and my postpartum nurse taught me SO much about breast feeding. (She did give me some wrong advice looking back, on how often to feed my baby, but overall she helped a ton). I was so ravenous after my 3 hours of pushing that I scarfed down all the hospital food they could bring me! I was so nervous about delivering at a hospital, especially naturally, but it was wonderful.

My hospital was awesome and the nurses were amazing. Wouldn't change a thing. My spine, however, caused way too many problems. I can't even blame a specific anesthesiologist because I saw them all. So both experiences were a little traumatic and not as smooth as your usual epidural experience.

My experience was wonderful, except for the nurse who wiped me down all over right after my C-section back in the room. I was in agony while she forced me to roll from side to side while she gave me a sponge bath. I had tears streaming down from the pain and she didn't care. A few minutes later she comes back to my room and says how sorry she is, that she just found out that my anesthesiologist didn't give me or the other woman in the next room for her c-sec before mine enough pain meds (only half the usual amount) so that is why I was in so much pain. She immediately gave me more pain meds thru the IV and I felt better quickly. I had tried to tell her how much pain I was in. :( Besides that, the next 3 days were great.

@MamaMoose: Yes. I went with the midwives & had a horrible experience. Prenatal care was fine, not amazing, but I absolutely hated everything about Vandy. I am going to be interviewing a few OBs that are known to be very VBAC friendly & decide on a hospital after I pick a doctor & know where they have privileges.

If you know anyone who has had a VBAC & loved their doctor please let me know!

I loved my hospital experience! Heated blankets and a fresh baked cookie cart? Yes please!

My hospital also has a special suite you can pay extra for where you get a view of the lake, giant big screen tv with blue ray player, steak dinners, fresh flowers, and a limo ride home!

The normal suites were nice too though. You stayed in one room for labor, delivery, and recovery. They all had jacuzzis, exercise balls, were nicely decorated. They had a fold out couch, but they also brought in a bed for my husband. It really didn't feel hospital like!

Overall yes. The OB on call the first time made things more stressful than they needed to be during labor. But I really liked the nurses and room and everything else. We moved so I was at a different hospital the second time. I liked the OB, a lot better the second time and everyone else was still really nice.

@Mrs. Bee: Wow, that's crazy! I think my friend got admitted around midnight, but was there for awhile earlier. I think she had her firstborn early in the morning, so laboring in the waiting room made the delivery part fast. We got into triage pretty quickly, then up to the room within an hour or so once they checked me. After that, I labored through the night so 8-10 hours.

I am so happy I had an amazing experience! It was so much better than bradley classes implied. The OB was there the entire time. He'd pop in to check on me and any time the monitor lost the heartbeat (my baby was far down in the canal so it was hard to use the exterior monitor. It scared me but when it lost her bea) two residents and the OB would magically appear. I felt safe and taken care of and I love typeA friendly people who are good at what they do.
The OB met me in triage and the residents (there were two) were checking on me the whole time. It was great. The nurse sat next to me and dh did too. When it came time to deliver everyone just appeared and introduced themselves. Everyone was amazing, respectful, on my side, explained things to me. My only bad experience was with my hospital stay because I had a horrible nurse.

@Mrs. Bee: I had a friend who had to wait while in labor in the reception room of triage before being looked at. When I told her it was empty for LO's birth, she was jealous. I still remember how she talked about laboring in a full reception room. Her first was born in July which is one of the busiest birth months in that hospital.

So much of my traumatic birth experience was not the fault of the hospital, nurses or doctors, AND the top notch pediatricians saved my LO's life...

Yes and no. My OB and L&D nurses were the absolute best. My post-partum experience sucked. At one point we had to tell the charge nurse to get the %#@$! out of our room, because she was only making it worse. (Or DH did, because I was an emotional mess.)

For the first one - ABSOLUTELY.
For the 2nd one - Not really.

It all depends on the nurses, seriously!! They can make or break the experience. I had smooth labors and my 2nd labor was faster than my first, but the experience was still unpleasant because of an incompetent nurse.

IN the sense that all the personnel was awesome, I had an absolutely awesome hospital birth. On the other hand, I didn't get to hold my son for 24 hours, and I eventually had to leave them both there...that all really sucked, but it was obviously not the hospital's fault!

Yup, it was wonderful. In fact, I loved my L&D nurses so much that I wrote a letter to the L&D nurse manager, who emailed me back and said that she was placing my letter in their personnel files. They were amazing. I really wanted to go med-free, but after 17 hours of labor with zero progress (was STILL at 2cm!) and 30 hours of no sleep, I needed the epidural to help me sleep. I agonized over the decision, and my nurses just sat there and let me cry and encouraged me that whatever decision I made would be the right decision for me and baby. They were incredible. I still get all verklempt just thinking about it.

My only issue was that my epi actually fell out, and when the anesthesiologist re-placed it, it didn't take. But it actually made it so that I was able to feel the contractions and push when I needed to, so...blessing in disguise, I guess?

yes, i had a good experience. not perfect (one nurse i didn't like and the epidural not taking the first time), but nothing to cause me running away from a hospital for labor/delivery in the future.

Yes. I had a great labor and delivery experience with LO and the hospital. Once I was admitted, the nurses were great in triage. They checked me and got me ready for an epidural before being taken to a labor & delivery room.

The nurses during labor & delivery were awesome. They were so nice and helpful. I had a set of nurses while laboring and then the shift change happened. I had a new nurse who helped with immediate pp. I still remember how nice they were for those 10 or so hours. They were prepared for the worst, but LO arrived in a normal birth scenario. I think it helped that I was given advice to be flexible and not have high expectations of a perfect birth experience. It made the whole thing go smoothly.

I hated my pp nurses since we were newbie parents totally deer in headlights, changing diapers, paperwork, etc. DH got so stressed that he ended up in the emergency room after I gave birth. They weren't helpful to him, but focused on LO and myself. Even then, I wasn't too fond of them.

If I give birth there again, I'm hoping that pp nurses are nicer. It'll help that we'll be experienced parents by that point. I also will have a ton of food and drinks for DH to get through the night.
