I had a mini freak out when I started thinking about dinner time with a toddler, newborn and my husband working. How the heck would I handle all of that. Luckily, my husband won't be working for the next 4 months (waiting to get an operation) so the freakout is officially gone!

@googly-eyes: Aww, you're gonna be a great mom! And... I think everyone freaks out at the end, isn't it part of the deal?

Purpleunicorn: I had one when I got my BFP too.. I remember saying to myself (and this of all things was the first thing I said) "Holy crap this is gonna hurt!" And then "Omg gonna be somebody's mother!" and then I got used to it for awhile but recently freaked out a bit again. I'm feeling pretty good now but I wouldn't be surprised if, like Pastemoo, I freak out again at the end (and of course that would be the biggest one of all!)

I had freakout all the way through. Even though I wanted to have a family, I still would question if I was really prepared for everything involved. How was I going to raise and be responsible for this child??

But those thoughts are completely normal - just take it one thing at a time. You'll be a wonderful mother - just keep telling yourself that, and take it one day at a time ;-)

I had a lot of freak outs. My biggest was at my shower, opening all those baby things made it all seem so real! Of course I just smiled and thanked everyone and acted super excited, but inside I wanted to cry.

I don't really remember at what point I had a freakout, but I admit I had a total mommy meltdown: Was I going to be a good mom? Can I handle this? Am I SERIOUSLY about to be responsible for another life? WTF was I thinking when I said I wanted to have kids?!

I think it's a normal and natural response to such a life changing event.

It really surprised me how natural parenting came for us, though, We had a lot to learn, but we learned together -- having a support system is key, I think.

You'll be great!!!

I haven't had a big one yet (almost 16 weeks) but every couple of weeks I will have a mini panic attack about furniture, bedroom, church, money/budget. Just as recently as last night I had the freak out of "what if I"m not a good mother and don't have the patience for a newborn" because my dog was driving me bonkers and she would not calm down. Sigh, luckily DH knows how to calm me down with ice cream!

@GooglyEyes: Yesterday, as a matter of fact. :) I am 20 weeks this week and I had a full on panic attack yesterday about not being able to do it all, i.e., work, raise a baby, maintain any semblance of sanity, . . . it was quite a list. It seems to come in waves - the confidence and the paranoia. It doesn't help that I--probably like so many of the posters here--feel the need to do it all *perfectly* and without skipping a beat. Talk about unrealistic! I am really trying to work on my mental flexibility (allowing myself to not be perfect all the time), slow down when I need to (because I really need to, for mine and butterbean's sakes) and accept that things are (and will remain) different now.

Just know you're not alone. And for the record, I also freaked out yesterday when I read that my baby girl already has a uterus and 7 million eggs . . . I mean, c'mon already, she hasn't even taken her first steps yet!

@googly-eyes... I'm 19 weeks and I feel the same way. Some days I'm extremely confident and excited and some days I'm so nervous and scared. There are days when I think I can't even get my 2 little dogs to stop barking, how am I going to raise a child? At my age, you would think I would be completely ready but I guess that's something that one can never be completely ready for.

So, sorry that I don't have any advice but just wanted to let you know that you're not alone in those thoughts.

I think a couple of days ago I started to have a little freak out. I'm 18 weeks pregnant.

I just felt overwhelmed by all the things I have to learn and do to be a good parent..from types of diapers and baby "stuff" to circumcision, to sleep arrangements/schedules, to daycare, to where we're going to live/buy (since we rent), to education, values, religion (I was raised in a religion but now don't practice any religion) to all the things that happen during adolescence...AAAH!

Most days I feel pretty confident, but now that I'm almost halfway there it just feels like time is moving both fast and slow at the same time.

I try to remember it's not all going to happen at once. :)

So, did you have a during pregnancy/adoption process freak out about parenting? I'd love to hear about others' experiences.
