Very common around here, many people are uncomfortable with having a shower before the baby is born. I had a sip-and-see with my first but we called it a come-and-go-tea. Essentially it was the same idea as a shower but it had a window of time where people came, no baby shower games and most people just fought over who got to hold the baby for entertainment, haha. My family cleaned up before and after. My husband also stuck around and lots of husbands came with their partners so when I got overwhelmed (I'm a little introverted) I'd go sit with the men and pretend I was interested in the football game. We invited neighbors and friends over for more of an open house type event a week after E was born. I ended up feeling awful that day and spent most of the time laying down in our room though. I didn't want an actual shower with women only and games and gift opening and all that jazz. Plus all of our aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents live 2-3 hours away and wouldn't have met her until she was 6 months+ if we didn't do this. Even having a few family members at a time or a few friends was exhausting to me. </p> <p>I did go to one though and it was fun. The couple had a shower already, so most people brought small gifts, but they lived far from family so it was a chance for everyone to meet the baby when thy came up for a visit. They had a chill, easy, good sleeping baby though. For both babies! </p> <p>For my first, we did it at my moms house back home when baby had arrived and was like 6 weeks old. It was the first grand baby so it was big for her to be able to host for her friends. </p> <p>For my second, we didn't have any formal showers or anything, but friends hosted a Sip and See after he was born (1 week after). Did you have one?</p> <p>To my knowledge, a sip and see is a shower after the baby is born where you bring gifts and get to meet the baby. </p>
