My parents did not want to encourage the idea of helping out because we wanted to get paid; they taught us that taking care of our home and our things was a responsibility that we all shared equally, out of respect. They bought us things that we needed and wanted, within reason. My parents bought all my clothes and pretty much everything I needed, so the pocket money was just for fun stuff.
