Whenever my dad came home from work, I would run out and greet him and carry his lunch bag in with him.

Every Sunday, after church, we would get Arby's and head out to the local state park. My parents are huge nature lovers and my brother and I loved roller blading/biking. We did this every Sunday until college; that's when my dad started golfing. He didn't want to miss Sundays with us, so he waited on taking up golf until we were in college.

When we were little, every Saturday we'd have a "Family Adventure". It was mostly going to the public library, a park, or even just the grocery store, but we always did it all together and made it a fun thing to do. Sometimes it would be a surprise adventure and we wouldn't find out what it was going to be until we got there. My parents worked really hard to make even simple things fun.

Whenever my dad came home, no matter what my brother and I were doing (sleeping, eating, homework, on the phone, etc) we greeted him at the door. My hubs' family, though, when my FIL comes home, they just call out "hi dad" or not even at all. But I hope that when my kids are grown they will run to greet my husband.

will definitely be continuing the tradition with my kids.

Ahh, the nostalgia....

I took a packed lunch in grade school, and my mom ALWAYS wrote me a note in my lunch, on my napkin or on the banana peel, wherever :)

The whole family always made pancakes, from scratch, on Saturday mornings. That is one of the first memories I have, from very young, so I wouldn't be surprised if Charlie remembers more than you might expect!

@Jennimac - I do that to my Hubs too.

If we were away from home, we would always call before coming home. We lived 30 mins out of town and it was a rough road with no cell service so it was our way of keeping everybody safe. Also, we'd eat dinner together every night.

We all would come running to the door when my dad would come home. We would all give him a hug and a kiss then follow him while he put up his stuff. I never thought anything about until my Hubby said something about me always doing that to him. I like the little rituals. :)

We also always say "love you" on the phone when we hang up.

In my family, whenever my dad came home I would race to meet him at the door and he would hand me his jacket. I would save a special plastic red hanger for his jacket, and hang up his coat for him. Looking back, I have no idea why I did this. I guess I just liked having something special to share with him that was all mine?

Anyway along those lines, I have been trying to create a lot of little rituals with Charlie. We go to the coffee shop together pretty regularly and I let him sip my coffee. We go pumpkin hunting together regularly too, where we take long walks to spot pumpkins on various stoops.

I wonder if he will remember our little rituals.

Did you have any family rituals growing up... and what were they?
