I had been having increased mucus discharge (probably my mucus plug), and I had a lot of diarrhea during the last week I was pregnant. My midwives didn't check dialation or anything, but confirmed at my 38 week appointment, 2 days before labor, that LO had dropped and was deep in my pelvis.

I was exhausted, had none of that nesting energy that you hear about, and SO SICK of being pregnant. I had also been having a lot of BH contractions, but they had been going on for weeks, so I don't really count that as a sign.

I lost my mucus plug about 10 days before giving birth. Had a membrane sweep and had bloody show afterwards. First painful contraction was about 9 hours after the sweep. I thought the first one was just a BM, but realized by the second and third that they were contractions!

I felt like instead of "tired of being pregnant", I was "tired of not knowing when labor would start".
Good luck!

I felt off both times. I am a freak who doesn't notice contractions. But luckily my water always breaks so that's how I know it's go time. With DS, people said the day before I looked miserable. Lol. With DD I felt physically sick and throughout the day I felt her dropping. My water broke around 8 pm.

@regberadaisy: Really??? My midwife said that she didn't want to risk anything, and wouldn't do it for me.....maybe I will ask her again about it at my next appt if I make it till then. I will be 39+4 then at least!

I'm hoping this is the start of something though, I have had diarrhea (maybe just very loose/frequent stools) all yesterday and this morning....Still no contractions at all though.

I had prodromal labor for 5 days before I went into real labor. I wouldn't wish that on anyone! During that time I was basically not dilated at all.

If I remember correctly, the day before I went into real labor I had some bloody show and then my water broke overnight (with meconium).

I was having infrequent non painful contractions that morning. Really nothing before! Then I had my membranes stripped and contractions become more regular and painful within a few hours.

That day, didn't think I was having a single sign. Never had BH or any other early contractions. My water broke late-night on 39+5, and DD was born 7 hours later. Not sure if it matters, but I had almost 100% back labor.

ETA: Looking back, I can now see that I got super grumpy about two hours before my water broke. :P

I had a few "weird" feelings all weekend and had some diarrhea. Wouldn't call them contractions though. Also lost some mucus plug then too, probably right before the weekend. Monday AM felt like I had my period cramps on and off and that was the start of labor. Had her Tuesday AM.

Sooooo I was one of those people that "didn't know" I was in labour :p

At 34 +5 - 35 +5, I had increasing BH contractions - while I had them all preg very very frequently, they were coming more regularly, especially at night - usually to the tune of every 7-12 minutes lasting about 2-3 hrs before they fizzled out. I called my ob who was unconcerned and said while I would likely deliver in the next 2-3 weeks, there was no way to say for sure.

On the day I delivered (35 +5) honestly the BH contractions were exactly the same! The only reason I went to the hospital was because DH forced me against my will as he felt the BH were going on too long. We had a hue fight about it because I didn't want to be that lady that went for false labor after her ob had already said not to worry about it. It was quite the scene lol.

At triage my water broke and Lo was born 4 hrs later!

I was 1 cm dilated and 20% effaced at 36 weeks and did not get checked again before I went into labor. No other signs! My water broke (or began leaking) and I lost my mucous plug at 38+4 at 5pm and then my contractions started soon after. I truly did not believe I was in labor and felt terrible calling the doc on a holiday weekend to get her opinion. Had baby the next day!

@Rainbow Sprinkles: I disagree on if you don't know its contractions it probably isn't labor, as it is different for everyone...I was going #2 a lot starting middle of the night around 6-7,hours before my daughter was born,, then kept feeling like I needed to use the bathroom but nothing else was coming out...realized hey this might be contractions and timed it...regular timing was the only reason I thought it actually was contractions. That was 4 hours before my daughter was born. Once I was at the hospital/in triage, eventually contractions started being painful but it was only starting maybe an hour or so before my daughter was actually born.

My daughter was born at 37+6. The only sign of impending labor was a decrease in movement...if I drank a decaf iced coffee and laid down I could get the minimum number of kick counts but otherwise wasn't really feeling normal movement. That was a Sunday and she was born Monday...I had an OB appt scheduled for that Monday morning and was planning to bring it up then!

37+6 had cervical check was 1-2/90% told it could be days or weeks. That afternoon I had spotting and cramping. Contractions got more painful as the evening wore on then dissipated after getting in bed.
38w - woke up disappointed. Went to work. I the afternoon I had more cramping and contractions but not as severe as the day before. Felt like I was coming down with a cold - chills, achy, headache. Went to bed with no signs of labor. Woke up at 1 am (38+1) to my water leaking. Baby was born at 5:30 pm!

I went into labor very early Monday morning, at 3 am. But all day Sunday I was going #2 A LOT.....(sorry, TMI). I think I went about 10 times! And I felt insane pressure down there and had a hard time walking.

As for the contractions, no way that you will miss them if it's the real thing. If you have to question "is this the real thing?" then it probably isn't (although it might be early/prodromal labor). For me, when my real labor started, is was instantaneously excruciating.

My midwives didn't do checks until 40 weeks (unless requested, which I didn't). On the Friday before my due date I had some contractions while sitting in traffic, but they went away as soon as I got home and laid down. Saturday was nothing. Sunday morning I woke up to contractions and lost pieces of the mucous plug. The contractions were mild but consistent, had baby the next morning! But before that day, hardly anything, just the one half hour or irregular contractions.

@Alba4: oh wow that's amazing!! I really wish my midwife would have been able to do a membrane sweep, but since I tested positive for GBS, she wasn't able to.....I really think that would have gotten labor started!

I was in a similar situation when I was 38 weeks pregnant. My membranes were swept and the midwife was like, "I'll probably see you in 48 hours". She was right!

I felt a strong urge to lay low and stay home and veg out. I lost part of my mucus plug and had contractions on and off all that day.

Later that night I took and shower and then, BAM, labor hit. I vomited a bunch and the contractions were strong and constant. The doctor on call and even our doula told us to go into the hospital in the morning, but by 2 AM I just knew that I needed to go. Trust your intuition!!! I delivered our son by 7:55 AM the next morning.

My BFF walked around like that for 3 weeks with her doctor telling her that it would be any day now. She was beyond done with being pregnant, so it didn't help her at all.

I had no progression at all (wasn't dilated or effaced) on Friday, and went for a pedicure on Monday night...I had been crampy all day, but I didn't think anything of it since I was crampy on and off the entire week prior. I went into labor that night and delivered on Wednesday.

Hopefully, your midwife is right, but try not to put too much stock into it!

@MrsBrewer: It's not stupid! I wasn't sure I was having contractions at first, but they felt like period cramps. As for labor signs, I had none. Well, my nose was bigger/flatter the day I went into labor, which my chiropractor told me was a sign that I would be going into labor soon.

Is it stupid that I'm afraid I won't notice the contractions?? I hear about all the women who have no idea they are having contractions until they are hooked up! I tested positive for GBS, so I will need to go in for antibiotics before the baby is born. I just want to make sure I have enough time!

I was 80% effaced, 2-3 cm the last few weeks of pregnancy. Lost my mucuous plug at 39 w, had a sweep and bloody show on my due date and day after, went into labor FINALLY at the crack of dawn at 40w2d!

I lost my mucus plug but don't consider that a sign since it happened a week before actual labor. When labor started I had no warnings! I was only dilated 1cm and had no contractions at all. I just all of a sudden had to poop at 9pm, had my bloody show, and then had contractions every 4 minutes and baby was born 12 hours later.
