My parents couldn't afford it though. </p> <p>@sweetkate: I have an overbite and my orthodontist put me on invisalign to help correct my bite. They said by wearing the 'splint' it reprograms my mouth to bite correctly. Now at 29 my dentist is trying to convince me to get them. I have an underbite and my bottom teeth are crooked. The only way to fix the underbite is to have surgery to push my jaw back. Which they would only do after I've had braces to straighten my teeth out. My husband also had braces (only once as a kid) and his teeth are BEAUTIFUL...so perfectly straight. I had palate expanders, retainers, full sets of braces (upper/lower), multiple oral surgeries to remove adult teeth (too many chompers for my mouth space), root canals from all the teeth movement and additional contraptions from elementary school to high school. My teeth are still crooked today.</p> <p>My mouth seriously sent at least 1 of my orthodontist’s children to college. My teeth weren't horrible, just slightly crooked with some odd placement and an overbite. I stopped wearing my retainers in college when my wisdom teeth came in. Unfortunately, one of them came in crooked and shifted my bottom teeth. But I also have a severe overbite so my bottom teeth are never visible! But the overbite has never been an issue. </p> <p>Rob Sr. had braces-- he had an extra tooth in front so they pulled it and gave him braces, and his teeth still are not straight. Poor guy. </p> <p>One of my best friends had a gap between her front teeth, and she got braces a few years ago right before she got married. They closed the gap and they were off before the wedding! I went through a period, in grade 5-6, where I lost my last few teeth at the same time-ish, and my new teeth were growing in on top of each other! Ugly! My teeth were SO crooked that I had to get a retainer first to straighten them out a little before braces would even fit on my teeth!</p> <p>I wore braces from grade 7-9, retainer every night until university, and then I stopped.
