My jaw was so messed up and I was growing so fast it was a 2 phase approach. I remember getting the colored rubber bands that went on the brackets in all kinds of purposeful combinations (rainbow, school colors, holidays) each time they were adjusted. Once I got them off, the retainer I got was glow in the dark with blue and green polka dots. I needed them to move my front teeth forward so my molars could come in. 2nd: 2 years, from the beginning of 6th grade to the end of 7th grade 3rd: my retainer was made incorrectly, so from the beginning of 8th grade until the end of 8th grade. My teeth still aren't perfect. I was so done with braces that I had them taken off before they were perfect. And I don't regret it. They could probably be fixed with a year or so of invisalign, but it's not for me right now. I think braces went on in the fourth-eighth grades? I still occasionally wear my lower retainer because my mouth is super small and they still shift. DH didn't have them. His teeth are still pretty straight. It would have been shorter had I actually worn my rubber bands the first time around. My teeth have shifted a bit and I have a very small gap between the front two. So I had braces in HS and it was awful! Affected my self confidence a lot. Then from grades 7-9 I wore braces. Afterwards I work my second retainer religiously until I outgrew it in university. Since then, my teeth have shifted a bit but are decently straight. I wore them for 18 months starting at age 15. Unfortunately my wisdom teeth caused my bottom teeth to crowd again, but it's not as bad as before. I wish my orthodontist had told my parents to get my wisdom teeth out when I got my braces off. I didn't get them out until I was 23. We had pretty straight teeth, but I could actually use braces in my lower teeth now. They shifted a lot in my 20's, which my dentist told me was normal. Did you have braces? At what age? How long did you have to wear them?
