@runnerd: I'm hoping you're feeling better! I just saw this post and wanted to comment. If you're feeling feverish, make sure you go right in. I had a D&C in late Nov and 3 days later started running a fever with my bad cramping. Turns out they did not get all the tissue and I had gotten an infection. Another D&C and a week in the hospital later for IV antibiotics and it was finally over. My fever was very high, very quickly. Just be concious of your body and if you are concerned about anything be sure to call the doctor.

@runnerd: I would call the doctor if you're worried. Did they tell you when to be concerned, like if you fill a certain number of pads in an hour? I don't remember what they told me, it was awhile ago. Did you have an ultrasound during the d&c to know for sure that they got everything out? Hope you're doing better!

hmm follow-up to this post... (ps i'm so tired of posting in the miscarriage section, but ya'll ladies are wealth of knowledge).

I had my D&C Friday. Obviously I know some light bleeding and spotting is normal following. Well I had light bleeding Fri-Sun. And today - gosh today. I have had some bad cramps and been passing weird clots/tissue about 3 times. The bleeding was fairly heavy for about 2-3 hours.. finally calmed down, but was bad enough I went home from work cause I couldn't deal with having that go on there.

Should I be concerned?? Not many of you say you even had bleeding afterward... the doctor reported to my husband that everything went well with the procedure, so I dunno.. @artbee: you seem to be the only one who had any trouble with d&c...

I had to have a D&C because we were 11 weeks along. It was seriously unbelievably painful. Sorry, but it was. I was awake the whole time. However, once it was done, it was done. Nothing else to deal with. It made the emotional recovery MUCH easier.

I'm resisting any urge to feel sorry for you. My miscarriage was a natural one that didn't require a d&c. After the fact I did have a d&c, however and it honestly wasn't too bad. The only discomfort was some cramping afterwards. Good luck with whatever you decide.

I had a D&C but didn't really have a choice because there was concern I had a molar pregnancy. They wanted to run tests on the tissue. Luckily it wasn't! Anyways, the D&C wasn't bad. I was completely knocked out and recovery wasn't bad at all.

I suppose I had a little of both. Baby stopped growing at 8 weeks and I didnt know until I started bleeding at 12 weeks. I ended up in the ER (on a weekend).. My OB helped to clear the baby and placenta and thought I didn't need a D&C. I continued to bleed and a week later was still bleeding so my OB scheduled a D&C. Having been through it that way I would prefer to have had the D&C that way so I could have begun healing sooner.

I've been there and am here for you.

I had a natural miscarriage. I found out in the same day that I was pregnant about 6 weeks, and going to miscarry apparently it had already started. I don't know if I could mentally go through a D&C, I wasn't given a choice really.
I was very crampy for about a week and a half, and lots and lots of clots and bleeding.

I had 2 natural miscarriages. They were both early though and we only knew something was wrong because I was already miscarrying. If there had been no signs of MC I'm not sure what I would've chosen but my gut tells me I probably would've waited it out. It's a very personal decision though.

I've done both. My first m/c was just like yours. We scheduled a D&C for a week out from the ultrasound. I hoped that my body would start on its own before then, but it didn't. The D&C was no big deal. I had a little spotting afterwards for a week or so.

Last time, I spotted a little bit starting on Thursday and the doctor confirmed the m/c. I decided to wait since I'd already started spotting. On Monday, I started cramping and bleeding.

Maybe it was just because I'd already been through it once, but I found the natural m/c easier emotionally. While it was physically painful (heavy cramps for about 3 hours), it was therapeutic somehow. That probably sounds crazy and doesn't make any sense. Anyway, there is no right answer. Good luck with your decision. Thinking of you and your DH...

Hate that we rescheduled. I'd like to meet you and give you a hug. I've been there, and know how much it sucks. Mine was natural and happened on its own. In your case I would have the D&C because I would be anxious to move on.

I just want to tell you not to lose hope. I know for me the hardest part of the m/c was that I was freaking out thinking I would never be able to have a baby. As you know I now have a beautiful healthy baby girl and I know you will get your sticky baby too.

I do not like this post. It makes me sad. :(

We found out at 20 weeks that we had no HB. I think my body was telling me what was going on. I felt weird and I had this nagging feeling in the back if my head. I had to induce labor because I was so far along that a d/c would not have been safe. I was induced with cervadil.

I hate that you are going through this.

I won't feel sorry for you because I know how much I hated it. However, I do feel sad that so many women have to go through this.

Like most people on here, I had a d&c. I found out my baby stopped growing when I was 6 weeks (baby was 5weeks). I couldn't stand the idea of bleeding at work or anywhere else. I just wanted it to be over with and to move on. Plus, like MrsTiz the idea of carrying something inside of me that wasn't going to be a baby flipped me out. I had my d&c at 7weeks and started naturally mcing that morning. I was in so much pain but had the d&c anyways. I was put under and never had any cramping or bleeding after. I do not regret it at all. I would do it again in a heartbeat.

I know this isn't what you want but I have to say my heart is breaking for you. I remember the feeling like it was yesterday and I'm sorry you have to go through it.

I had a natural miscarriage at home at the 8 and a half week mark I'd say. I had been spotting the whole time on and off and an early ultrasound dated me back a week, which should have been the first clue that something wasn't right...

I wouldn't change my experience at all, but my body was really set on doing it. No real advice I guess, just listen to your gut and what feels right for you? My thoughts are with you.

I had a missed miscarriage. I found out at my 12 week apt. that my LO had stopped growing at 6 weeks, so I knew I had to do something, it wasn't just going to go away on it's own. I opted to take the pill because I didn't want to have surgery, but that didn't work for me. I tried it twice, and it was a no go.

So I had to do the D&C, which they warned me might happen. Oddly enough the D&C didn't work for me either. She said I had sticky placenta..... I like to think my LO wanted to stay in my belly a bit longer. It was pretty traumatic though, I had so much bleeding that I couldn't leave the toilet because I'd fill a pad in a minute (sorry TMI) and lots of blood clots. She said that had never happened to her, she had always gotten everything in the first try, and the next time she used an ultrasound during the D&C to make sure that everything was out and you can actually see the uterus wall thinning out when it's all out.

So please, if you have to have a D&C, learn from my mistake and ask for an ultrasound during it!

Other than that the actual D&C isn't bad at all. It's more emotionally painful than physically painful.

Hi. I had an mc a few months ago. I started spotting around 10 weeks and had a natural miscarriage (with minor contractions that felt like heavy heavy period cramps) at 11 weeks. The serious discomfort lasted about 2 hours with quite a bit of flow and a bit of a "delivery" of materials. I am glad I went though this at home. I was able to handle it all and I can't imagine dealing with the emotion of it surrounded by strangers. Plus I had my then 15 month old so she kept me distracted.

Best wishes to you and your family.

Dang. That is awful. :(
I had a D&C at 10 weeks with the baby size at 6 wk 3 days. I did it because I wanted it to be over. I found out the week before it was "offical" and sorry to be graphic, but the idea of carrying around a dead baby for even longer made me sick. I don't regret it at all. It was a quick procedure and I was fine the next day. I could have waited but I wanted to move on.
We sent it away for testing, but something went wrong and they couldn't use the sample. Honestly that was worse than having the DC because I couldn't get anwsers.
