I had a few bouts of contractions going for a few hours then stopping (I posted a similar question like two weeks ago!) when real labor started it took a few hours to believe it was the real deal.

I agree with @runsyellowlites: Rest! If I walked a lot they got more regular but that didn't make a difference in when I really went into labor. I wish I had rested more then to prepare for the birth.

Eta: once I started having the fake contractions I made a point of eating fairly simple foods I wouldn't mind throwing up during labor! My sister had indian the day before and it was awful coming back up!

@redsmarties: I didn't. I mean, I could have been contracting and not felt it....but when I finally felt contractions I also think I was in denial and just kept complaining about stomach pains. My mom and husband kept asking if I thought "this is it". And I was like, "No...this is definitely not the real deal". But it was, which I finally figured out when they didn't go away after 12 hours and got much, much more intense.

I had false labor for a week, then stopped working and it went away. I was induced at 41 weeks. Sorry I don't have a better story for you!

@runsyellowlites: I actually meant to tag you in this post - I knew you'd experienced this! I've had the false labour nightly for about 5 days now...so hopefully my scenario's similar to yours (in that the real thing is soon!)

If Chinese food counts as "lots of protein", then I'm doing okay, haha.

@sloaneandpuffy: Hmmm...could I be in denial?? I wish I were.

I had false labor nightly for a week. The contractions would start, continue regardless of what I was doing, and then after about 6 hours would stop... then on night 7 they didn't stop BUT they didn't really get closer or more intense either. At that point I was in what would be called prodromal labor... if I walked they would increase but if I didn't actively try to push them there were just kind of there. I had contractions spaced 6-20 minutes apart for the next day and after 37 hours I was finally in active labor... another 8 hours & P was born!

I really just rested & went along for the ride... I learned with G that trying to push things along in early labor most often just results in being worn out with very little effectiveness in dilation (even when intensity increases).

So rest up, eat lots of protein, stay hydrated, and oh yea... REST! ;)

I had false labor for an evening and thought it was time - I was so excited! But turned out to be false and I was disappointed. Almost two weeks later I was still pregnant- and ended up being induced after that soooo it didn't lead into anything for me.

Nope! I thought I was having false labor but it was real labor, both times. Denial much? LOL Good luck! You're close :)

I'm due tomorrow, and I've been having Braxton Hicks for a few weeks now. As of my last appointment, I was 1 cm dilated, and only about 50% effaced. However, for the last 24 hours, I've been having contractions (painless) every 15 minutes. They pick up to every 5-7 minutes when I'm walking or on my exercise ball. I *know* that this is false labour, but its a little irritating.

If you had false labour, did it turn into real labour eventually? How long were you contracting for before you realized "This is it?"

(I'm fully expecting all of the typical answers...I know I just need to wait and see, haha. I'm just getting impatient!)
