Kept long because my dad liked it that way. A week or two before he married my stepmother I talked her into letting me get it cut into a bob. She was hesitant, and said my dad wouldn't like it, but I told her she was going to be my new mommy so it was okay. My dad cried, lol. Then, it was long ever since. I always wore it in pony tails or a bun, so it wasn't ever long and out. My hair was also always kept fairly short (chin length). My LO (now 2.5 years) just had her first haircut and it was only a trim. No bangs for her yet and I intend to keep her hair longer until she's old enough to decide otherwise. It was long in kindergarten and first grade, then my mom cut a bob with bangs in second grade, then long in third, and then VERY short in 4th grade (my Mom told me that my Grandma who had just died would have LOVED my short hair...trickery). My mom cut my hair (BADLY) and she always lied to me. She would say, see we are growing it out. see it is time to trim it so it will grow nicely. Oh. we trimmed too much ? nah.... One year in elementary school she completely cut off all my hair so I looked like a boy. Because she said it was summer. It was awful. Sometimes I wonder what is up with her. Strangers would come up to my parents and referred to me as "your son". Another excuse she said was because she needed to wash my hair and if I wanted long hair, I need to wait until I grow up and wash my own hair because long hair is very troublesome. But since she was my hairdresser she liked to trim it short. After I was able to go to the hairdresser on my own, I had long hair since, except for a few times but it was never too short. I had shorter hair as a kid. My mom took me for a perm in 3rd grade and I have naturally wavy hair. I was also missing my top and bottom front teeth, so I looked awful. It's fine and gets tangled very easily. So from there I had short to medium length until I was in my early twenties. As a direct result, I still haven't cut my daughter's hair @ 20 months. I think I'm finally breaking down and getting her bangs cut this weekend though - she's starting to look like a bit of a wild woman. She has very fine hair that is actually getting quite long, but you can't tell unless it's wet because it usually curls. It was gorgeous, but my mom cut it into a bob when I went to school because she didn't have time to chase after me with a hairbrush anymore. I use to get AWFUL tangles and hated having it brushed. When she cut it, all the curl fell out :( If I ever have a girl, I think it will depend on the texture of her hair. I'll have biracial children, so there's sort of no telling what their hair will end up looking like. I think it'll depend on how hard it is to manage vs. how cut it looks in long curls. Then I pretty much had long hair all through my childhood. When I first got Olive's hair cut into a bob, I LOVED it. I'm growing it out now because I can't wait to braid it and I love being able to put it up, but I really miss that bob. I wonder if I should cut it again....
