Thankfully we have been able to move into laying down- best thing ever! I put his rear end and back on a pillow next to me and we lay on our sides with him facing me. I wasn't able to successfully do this until about 5 1/2 months.

The rest of the time we just do the cradle, cross-cradle, or straddle depending on where we are sitting and his mood. I've never mastered the football hold.

Attached is a super helpful guide from my bf'ing class.

We did cross-cradle as newborn, then cradle with boppy until about 10 months, then he got kind of big so now he just sort of sits in my lap. I would still call it cradle but I'm not supporting his body weight just his head.

I second the straddle feeding. It works well for taller babies.

I fed Toddler Girl in football until she got too long, then switched to cross cradle (until she weaned at 17 months). With Wonder Baby I've mostly just used cross cradle all along.

I went from football to cross cradle to cradle. Not sure what we'll do as she gets bigger!

I know several moms who nurse toddlers and they do cradle! Since they're bigger it's just more of their baby laying across them than them actually have to "hold" them. Side nursing would work well too.

I have had to change positions - he used to eat best in football but is too big for that, so we do side lying or cradle/cross cradle.

After about 12 months we started a sitting nursing. He straddles me and nurses. It's alot like how he nurses in a baby carrier. We still cradle with him lying on my lap.

At 4 months and 17 lbs, I now feed him while he kind of sits on the opposite leg, across my lap, and leans into my arm. The supporting arm rests on an armrest or pillow or something.

If so, what positions do you use? Plan to BF into toddlerhood but I can't imagine cradle holding a 25 pounder....
