I cut out dairy soy and nuts when LO showed signs of silent reflux. a few months ago I tried peanut butter again and was able to pin point that's what was causing the bulk of the reflux along with heavy dairy such as ice cream and milk. Yogurt & cheese don't seem to affect him.

We have no family history of allergies. My LO showed signs of MSPI and we cut out dairy and soy, which fixed the problem. I never tried cutting out egg or nuts. She grew out of her intolerance by 15 months and is now only allergic to avocado at 22 mo.

@Truth Bombs: yeah I thought it was a weird order esp since she suggested it before she knew about DH'S allergies.

At least I don't eat eggs or fish, so that's 2 less suspected culprits.

EBF is important to me at least until I go back to work in 4 weeks (when he's 2.5 mo) and then I'm ok with supplementing 1-2 feeds daily if necessary until 6 months. He currently has no other symptoms besides the green mucusy poops.

I'm very surprised by your ped's suggestion. Soy is more common than eggs or nuts (though given that your LO has a family history of nut allergies that seems more reasonable). This is the order given by both my ped and my lo's GI doc: dairy and soy, if that doesn't work, then eggs, gluten, fish and nuts, if that doesn't work then beef, if that doesn't work, then rice. When you cut the next level, you don't add back the previous level. You can't add back until you get a healthy baseline. I'm on beef right now. If I have to cut rice I essentially won't eat.... 😞 But breastfeeding is really important to me so I'm making it work for now. Luckily LO isn't super miserable or anything while we're working through it. He's happy and gaining weight, but has mucusy stools, nasal congestion, and very mild rashes behind his knees

A friend of mine has a son with significant food allergies. Sunbutter is a win in their house, both kids love it. He also eats a dairy free cheese product called Teese. She eats it too when she is going vegan.

@DesertDreams88: @catlady: Idk if there are any near you, but the sn butter is way cheaper at Trader Joe's than any other place I've found!

With both kids I had to cut out dairy, soy, and almonds. Other nuts (and peanuts!) are fine. Eggs were fine for both as well. I miss almonds more than anything else!

I think I responded to you in another thread, but I did eliminate both treenuts and peanuts (among other things) and I honestly don't think it made any difference. They were the first things I brought back as well and it was fine.

I did eat tons of sunbutter and I found it sweeter than PB (because we usually buy the unsweetened stuff, but sunbutter is always sweetened). But it was a good substitute and I got used to it very fast. Only issue with it is that it's expensive.

@desertdreams88 Since I wasn't directly comparing the two, I honestly thought it tasted better! I think it's sweeter than regular PB.

@petitenoisette: Do you feel that sunbutter is comparable in taste to peanut butter?

I eliminated nuts for about 6 months but I don't think it was necessary in retrospect. I also have family history, my brother is allergic to peanuts & tree nuts as well.

Sunflower seed butter was a lifesaver at the time!

At the time it seemed easier to just cut everything possible out (bc just doing D/S wasn't working) but in retrospect I wish I hadn't done it that way because I found it hard to add stuff back in once I had cut it out.

Dr wants me to try cutting out dairy, nuts, and eggs (in that order of importance) since my BF son is having yellow & green mucusy poops. She says those are the top 3 intolerances she sees in BF babies.

Eggs is easy. Dairy is almost impossible, but could be a lot easier if I would have peanut butter. It opens up like 5 more meal options, and thus would allow me to go more dairy-free. So I'm going to try to find a balance, to start.

Did you have to eliminate nuts while BFing? I'm especially interested in answers from moms who had to cut out other items.

For what it's worth, DH & BIL are allergic to peanuts & tree nuts, so there is a family history.
