I don't think of it as re-training. I think of it as a continuous practice of installing and reinforcing good sleep habits. I do that and follow through with our routines every day.

We don't sleep train, but what has worked for a tear free bedtime has constantly changed over the last 2.5 years.

me! and he's only 7 months. did it because he had a cold, because we got out of a routine a little bit, because of teething probably, etc. but sort of what @catlady said - because it wasn't FULL ON training all over again, but just giving a time limit until he stops crying, and he either stops or we only have to go in once. he only recently started going down again without crying. however, i'm sure it will change again!

Yes and no. Yes because occasionally she would still cry before falling asleep, especially after some disruption like teething or illness or traveling. No because we never had to do the full-on Ferber method again. I would always say something to DH like "I'll give her 10 min and then go in" and she'd always fall asleep or get quiet before the 10 min was up.

Every so often even now, she cries in the middle of the night due to a nightmare or illness or something and I will go down and soothe her, but I don't really count that as it happens so infrequently.

We would have had to but we gave up. :-) The first time was so traumatic that we didn't bother doing it again. But it certainly didn't "last".

Yep. 5 months, 19 months, 26 months. Hopefully this was the last one. I think the regressions have been mostly our fault, though, because we slip into bad habits (usually holding his hand to help him fall asleep) that he then gets used to.

We did. For no reasons I could totally follow. We would go a few weeks great, then it would slowly unravel, then we would have to start over again. At least 6-7 times. My son is 2.5 now, and so far he has been pretty easy for a couple months. But now it's shenanigans, sometimes claiming he needs water 5 times before he can fall asleep.

We did it at 8ish months old when we stopped cosleeping, then again when we stopped nursing at 20 months, and again at 28 months when she moved to a big girl bed. We are currently in round 4 which is learning not to get out of bed to go potty fifteen times a night. She also has trouble when she gets off her routine and needs a couple days to get back on track.

From 5 to 13 months, yes. Anytime she got a little cold, or anytime we traveled, or anytime the wind blew. I say that she slept through the night during her first year but it wasn't her idea until 13 months. From then we had rough nights of course but she always was able to reset without an ordeal.

Only after jetlag. After the initial sleep training at 6 months-ish, my son realised he LOVES sleep and LOVES his crib and it pretty much stuck. But, after jetlag he gets so used to us coming in and interacting with him in the middle of the night, that once that passes we usually have to let him fuss it out for a few nights.

I feel like we've had to repeat sleep training a million times! My 26m old goes through weeks, even months of going to bed easily and staying asleep through the night. He's had good stretches since the first time we sleep trained around 6 months. But it feels like it never ends. Just when I feel like we've seen the last of it, he struggles to go down again. I'm trying to stay super consistent and do what we've decided we're comfortable with and what's "worked" in the past, but it's so frustrating!

Have you had to sleep train multiple times? If so, how old was your child when he/she finally stopped having regressions?
