As I got older my mom would call me into the kitchen when she was making one of my favorite meals so I'd know how to do it. Once I was competent I got the famous pasta sauce recipe! Even when she wasn't going over a recipe she'd give me little tips when she was cooking. I think her little lessons really helped me feel confident in the kitchen. I always wanted to help in the kitchen so my mom started out by giving me small tasks to do and then eventually I was able to make dinner on my own. Sometime in elementary school I decided I was going to make breakfast on the weekends. They made sure I could follow directions on a box, and brown hamburger meat. Now I can cook a lot, but its all mostly self taught and all from recipes with good directions. I can't just throw a meal together based on whats in the pantry.</p> <p>I should add that I was super busy in high school with activites/work almost every night so I didn't have many chances to actually cook. SHe used to come home and just make the meal so it was on the table, but she wishes she would have taught us the basics after we would call her from college asking about the easiest things (I remember calling to ask how to boil eggs.)
