I fully intended to start with purees, but I'm thinking we might have to skip them (the opposite of your situation). LO just doesn't want anything to do with purees.

We were open but her response to purees was so much more positive and the sounds she'd make trying to chew on even small soft chunks like bananas just scared me. So we did just purees for a bit then started incorporating some ideas from BLW. But we also gave her purees for awhile bc she liked them so much and I had so many frozen down.

I fully intended t BLW and he wasn't having it. He LOVES purees. We continues to give him some table food, but now at a year, he still prefers the purees and is becoming super picky about table food. :(

I definitely planned on doing BLW. My friend's daughter made it look so easy! I didn't even buy baby spoons and bowls. However, every time DS would eat something, he would gag and vomit. Every single time. So we went to purees and started back again a little at a time with whole foods around 8 months.

We started solids at 5 1/2 months old and did blw BUT he was failure to thrive and we were suggested to do purees with butter/olive oil to fatten him up. So we always offered after solids for fun.

Yep! I didn't plan on giving cereal or purees, and especially not starting before 6 months, but my daughter had other plans lol. She ate cereal like a champ at 4 months - loooved it. And then didn't want many finger foods, instead preferring me to spoon-feed her. Now, at almost 8m, I give her purees then let her eat finger foods for the rest of her meal and she likes that approach :)

@Silva: I've been so excited too! I am so thrilled that she is showing interest in eating now. She grabs the spoon & guides it to her own mouth when I feed her & you would think I never feed her the way she attacks the spoon! lol

Yup. We started BLW but it wasn't super successful. She really liked purees, we did them for about 4 weeks and then switched back to chunks of food (we cut everything into bite sized pieces, rather than big chunks like blw suggests. The big stuff always freaks me out). We have been thrilled with how solids have gone. We would load up the spoon and hand it to her so she was still feeding herself. She is a very adventurous eater at 9 months now. She loves curries and anything with cumin, spaghetti, anchovies, what ever.

I say follow your gut and your kid. Purees gave her confidence and an interest in food. blW would probably have been totally successful if we waited until she was about 7 months.... But we were too excited to start food!

E threw up with whole foods. Any time a chunk got into her mouth, she'd gag and projectile barf. No problem with the super smooth store purees, though, so we went to purees and yogurts and stuff. Started doing more BLW about a month ago and now she gets a mix.

It sucks because I would love to share with her when she "asks" but she's too little to have everything I eat so I usually try to hide it from her sight unless it's something "safe" lol

I wanted to do blw and it did NOT work out for us. She loves purees! I see pics of other LO sucking on celery... LO would chomp right through that... it just isn't safe! (For her personally.) She loooves purees.

LO is 4.5 months. I fully intended on doing BLW. That beig said, what mommy isn't excited to share the love of food with their LO? So sometimes I would let her taste things, even occasionally on a spoon, but she wasn't that into it so I didn't push it. Then the other day I decided to let her try my green smoothie on a spoon & she became a monster! Shoving the spoon in her mouth, yelling when it was empty, giggling, squealing, intently watching me when I would pause feeding her to take a drink. So now I've been saving parts of my daily smoothies for her (enough to last a few days of course, so i can monitor any reactions) & she is in heaven! And now she protests anytime I eat anything & I'm not sharing; all it took was one time & she's a foodie! Any one else's LO insist on being given solids on a regular basis before you planned?
