We've kept the ones LO wore from barely walking through size 6.5/7. For those sizes, he didn't stay in the same shoes for more than 3 months at a time.

Now, he's more active (and rougher on shoes!) and his feet aren't growing as quickly. I think he's been in the same size shoes for almost 6 months now and doesn't seem close to outgrowing them. I think most of the larger size 7s and everything bigger will be trash by the time he outgrows it (if not before).

Totally! The ones that get overused and worn out I will toss, but so many of my older son's shoes have been worn by my younger son!

I kept any shoes from DS2 that were in good shape. Especially until age 2, his feet grew SO STINKING FAST that he never wore shoes for more than a few months, sometimes only weeks, before outgrowing them. After 2, I'm a little more selective because he wears them longer and beats them up more with aggressive play.

However, I DID buy DS2 brand new Robeez and his own first pair of Stride Rite SRTs so that he had new shoes when he first started walking.

Anything not tottaly trashed, I kept. When/if we have another, I will assess each pair when the time comes, same as clothes. Definitely dress shoes/snow and rain boots will be fine, but some pairs of sneakers might be too broken in.

DD1 wore hand me down shoes to begin with; DD2 will wear whatever's still in good condition. Obv if something's really worn out I would get new ones but so far I feel comfortable giving her everything DD1 wore.

If they're in rough shape, we still reuse for play shoes. The boys were born in the same month, but LO2 is so much smaller than LO1 was, so they're starting to get off season from each other. But things like sneakers when I know they'll be playing after it's just rained, or we'll be going to the park where it's super muddy, I put him in his older brother's hand me downs.

I've gotten a few pairs of hand me down shoes and feel fine using them. I'm also saving shoes that are in good condition for possible #2. I'll shop used for things like snow or rain boots. I wouldn't reuse shoes that were totally worn out, but those things are pricey.

No to everyday shoes. Yes to barely worn shoes like dress shoes. But I'm probably the minority on hellobee. I'm not into hand me downs. DS2 probably only uses about 20% of big brother's old clothes.

We reuse. My mom told me she had always been told never to reuse but we're a no shoes house and DCP is no shoes so I figure they aren't in "bad" shoes a large percentage of the time anyway.

@StrawberryBee: I read you shouldn't reuse shoes. Or kids are too far apart (girl, boy, then another girl five years after the first) to have saved the shoes anyway but I would basically toss anything that has a visible imprint from their foot, so the heavily used stuff. But my kids tend to be the wear the same shoe daily for months kinda of kids!

We saved them all, pretty much, until he was like 3. DS2 has been wearing them happily! Now though, DS1 is rough on his shoes and they last longer so he generally keeps them until they are falling apart.

I would get new ones for any the it looks like her gait changed the wear. I wore some handed down shoes as a kid and I remember if not doing good to wear someone else's broken in shoes. Things like rain boots, sandles, dress shoes are totally fine.

I kept all of her shoes. Now that we are having a boy, about two thirds of them should work for him. The pairs in a bit more rough shape will live in the car or stroller as extras. Most of the shoes I purchased for her were pretty gender neutral anyway.

I kept anything in good condition in case we have a third or to pass to my niece/nephew. I also kept some that had been worn more but were super cute or more expensive as I'd be less able to repurchase for a third. I definitely find as they get older the shoes get grosser and not worth saving, except special things like boots, dress shoes, etc.

I kept olderbrother's shoes that were in good condition. My DS2 has huge feet and his first pair of shoes at 12 months were size 7. He needed a different brand (Nike) not Stride Rite. I'm still going to try his older bro's shoes as he grows. Maybe they will fit better in time? Otherwise I donate or sell.

It's my understanding that it's important for shoes to mold to the wearers feet and that used isn't ideal.

That said, I kept all DS's shoes and will use them as spares (if the regular shoes are wet, missing, etc) and will definitely reuse rain boots, snow boots, water shoes, anything worn for a short time.
