With our daughter, we were TG so we didn't have a name until she was born- but we didn't share any names before hand.

This time, we decided at my last u/s to find out what we are having because I'm high risk and might still lose the baby, we wanted to know in case that happened. We have a name nearly 100% decided on, but are unsure if we will tell people. It feels so weird to even know what the baby is, let alone a name at 16 weeks!

We didn't tell a single soul until she was born. We were happy with our decision and plan to do the same for any future children. Her name isn't common and we didn't want any negative comments. It was also fun to have a secret.

We are! The only person it's pissing off is my mom  I think it's more fun this way especially as we found out the gender. He does have a nickname so everyone just refers to him by that for now.

I really don't want everyone's opinion on it before he is born. Plus what if we change our mind once we meet him?

Nope. We revealed both of our kids' names to the everyone immediately after we found out their genders. We didn't reveal their middle names until they were born though as we didn't choose them until their births.

We kept it a secret to avoid the peanut gallery. I had no interest in knowing that "E" was the chubby kid you remember from 2nd grade. The only person I told our top three to was my sister. (She ended loving the name we chose the most, yay!)

This time we're Team Green and keeping the name a secret.

I only told my mom as a negotiation tactic for something else. And DH told his parents because they eeee bugging him and I agreed since they live far and speak a different language than most of our friends/family. I plan to keep it a secret the next time around with possible exceptions again

We've told everyone (and I'm 38w) her name, though we haven't put it on social media. We did this for a few reasons: First, it is a combination of family names, so we knew we wouldn't get any negative feedback specifically because of that. Second, my husband is TERRIBLE at secrets and spilled the beans multiple times about the pregnancy before the time we agreed to tell people so I had no confidence in his ability to keep a name secret (and I wanted to get to tell people too!). And third, because the pregnancy was much more a of a surprise thing than a long term plan, I really needed a way to make the baby "real" to me as I had never really dreamed of being a mom or anything like that. I'm the kind of person who names everything (my car, my computer, etc...yeah I'm a wierdo) so having her name out there really helped me mentally adjust to the idea of being a mom and get excited about it.

We aren't close to deciding yet, but we're planning on keeping it a secret even if we do. I want to see our little girl first to make sure she fits whatever name we decide on.

We have a list of top choices, but I try to be vague when anyone asks. I just don't want someone else influencing our choice!

We kept it a secret. It helped that we were team green and decided that we wouldn't make a final decision among our top contenders until we'd met the baby. He didn't have a name for about 8 hours.

I did share one of our more out-there names that DH had originally vetoed. When I got a really positive response, he mentioned it to a few friends, who also really liked it. The name went back on the list  (though it was a girl name so in the end it didn't really matter)

We're telling everyone that they will first hear the name after the ink is dry on the birth certificate. I don't want to hear everyone's opinions. This way if they don't like the name, they can't say anything (at least not to our faces).

I really feel like this is the default approach, though? I've known one or two people who announced the name before the birth but I found that really unusual. I definitely expect people to keep it a secret.

Yep! Only one person knows besides my husband and me, and she guessed out of the top 5 (and is a work colleague who will keep it to herself). We're keeping it secret for a few reasons...one, to make sure it suits the baby we have, two, because I had a friend with a loss at 38 weeks and don't want to name this baby until he's here safely and three, everyone knows the sex of the baby....it's fun to have the name be a surprise!
