@Torchwood: I don't think I would. It's sometimes annoying trying to hide them around family (mostly through pajamas (aka braless) and bathing suits). It's also tough in workout clothing sometimes too. I also don't want to have to explain to a future LO about why I have earrings in my boobs, LOL. I figure it's just a part of "growing up"?

@LindsayInNY: Yeah, I don't really love it. I'm seriously considering re-piercing them when I'm done with kids and bf-ing. But then they're not going to be as perky and all, so maybe I won't care as much?

@Sapphiresun: LOL! I felt (and feel) silly for not realizing it, but when I was pumping I just wanted down time so I would read or text, and the pieces get all fogged up anyway. It didn't even occur to me to wonder how it came out, I think I was hand expressing once when I had a clogged duct and was like, WHOA!

I did not know this either. I actually found out a couple months ago from my DH who was doing the labor and delivery part of his nursing school. I don't remember what we were talking about but he was like, "uhhhh, you do know that milk comes out of your nipple more like a shower, right?!" I was shocked!

I sort of learned this when I was pregnant because I had some dried milk on my bra one day. I didn't leak during pregnancy, but it was definitely a surprise.

I was surprised by how you could milk your breasts to get the milk out. I learned that in the hospital and at our day 3 appointment where the lactation consultant felt me up and showed it to me. I did it a lot while pumping at work to get enough ounces for the next day.

@LindsayInNY: I didn't remove mine till I was pregnant the first time. They kept catching on things, which they always did, but it was suddenly WAY more painful. I wasn't going to keep them since I plan to BF, so I just got rid of them then. Kinda regretting that since I could have had them for a few more months, but oh well. Everything closed up quickly, and they seem back to normal. The left one, which had a minor infection once, is a little harder like there's (very little) scar tissue there, but I can't feel anything on the right. Though to be honest after almost 10 years of having them pierced, I'm not 100% certain what "normal" nipples feel like anymore.

@Mae: I haven't asked my doctor outright about removing any of my piercings (lets just say there are multiple hidden ones...) She obviously knows about them and has just commented generally about what I'd do when I got pregnant. Most would be removed and "retired." She said I didn't have to do that with my belly button and I could get a pregnancy barbell for it if I wanted. I've had all these piercings for 10+ years now so they're just "there" at this point. Like you said about your nose, I think certain areas close easier/quicker. Some of my older ear piercings have closed (the newer or "weirder" ones) but some are still open (the older ones). I think a lot of my hidden ones would close fairly quickly. I guess I'll find out eventually?!

@LindsayInNY: lol, ask your doc about removing them maybe? I removed my bellybutton ring about 5 years ago and the hole is still visible, which is annoying. But I also have my nose pierced and I have been told when I remove that it will actually close because there is a lot more blood flow in the face. (hopefully that is true??). I'd think the nipples would be more like the latter. especially during pregnancy/nursing when there is a lot going on in the boob region :)

@Torchwood: Okay, confession, mine still are. I never saw a point in removing them but figured once I was pregnant I would. I have no clue what will happen! I'm assuming they'll close up relatively quickly? But how is the scar tissue after? Can you feel it inside your nipple?!

@Mae: Seriously! I literally pictured milk squirting out the holes to the left and right and then straight too, LOL.

Yes, but I grew up milking goats and cows, so while I never really applied the thought to humans, I knew you could get quite an interesting stream and "shooting" distance :)

Having mastitis myself gave me a whole new appreciation for breast anatomy beyond regular nursing and pumping.
