I went to a Big Ten university two hours away from home and had the best time! I was super involved in campus activities, did a lot of volunteer work, and made tons of friends. I didn't study as hard as I should have my first year but made up for it in my second half of undergrad when I really got into my major classes.</p> <p>I went straight on to grad scho at the same university and actually think that was my best time - old enough to be over the silly college experiences but still young enough to live a carefree life. It was great.</p> <p>That being said, I wouldn't want to go back to the university years. I can look back and say it was fun but I don't follow college sports, wear university apparel, or go back for homecoming. I went to a school about 6 hours from home and in an amazing city. I made the best friends of my life (all my bridesmaids were friends I made in my dorm in first-year and continue to be my best friends). I took a minimum of 18 hours each semester so that alone left little time for socializing (I graduated from college in 2.5 years with a double major. I entered college as a Junior). I did join a few school organizations. Reflecting back, I wish I was more social and experienced college more for what it had to offer. I loved the atmosphere. I loved most of my classes. I had an awesome group of friends. I was really focused on being healthy and was in great shape. Didn't have to do a ton of general type classes so I had a few professors more than once, I was able to do research with one of them, worked on a grant with another.</p> <p>I should add, I got a masters from the same school and wasn't thrilled - it was from their business school instead of liberal arts in my undergrad. I majored in art so I got to play with art materials all day long. It was a lot of hard work and long hours, but not many people get to spend their time painting and getting graded for it. </p> <p>Grad school I also loved.... but it was sooooo stressful! I loved what I was learning and I was interested all the time. But I was always so tired and had migraines from the stress. I loved college, but worked frequently throughout so missed out on some of the groups and social aspects. But I wouldn't trade that for debt I'd be paying for now! I don't love it in a way that I'd want to go back - I feel like a lot of people talk really longingly about college life - but it was a great transition time for me, I made good friends, and got a great education. I'm a bit of a homebody, though I do like to go out once in a while. </p>
