Not at all and I'm still paying for it now.....

I was suffering from severe depression in my late teens and, although my grades were still good, my heart wasn't in it at all and I stopped attending classes altogether in my second year of University. Part way through the second year, I quit my course. I got some help, got a job and got on with my life...

Years later, I decided to put myself through college, taking evening classes while working full time. I studied law for four years and got great grades. I couldn't, however, afford the pay cut to take an entry level law job so nothing changed, really..... I'm now putting myself through an Open University degree in English. Again, I'm doing it distance learning while working full time AND I'm paying my fees monthly.....

.......The fact of the matter is, if I had done it at the time, aged 18, when I had the chance it would have been much, much easier (and cheaper). But you don't appreciate the opportunities you have at the time, do you?!

Absolutely. I worked my butt off and was extremely proud of my thesis. I also made time for fun, and appreciated how lucky I was to be studying at my first choice college.

Not really. I double majored in two difficult subjects, and was a really average student in both. In retrospect I really should have given up the fun one (Russian) and just concentrated on the one I wanted for a career (molecular biology). I worked in a lab, but I didn't have time to really focus on it. And then I spent years learning Russian, but never made the time to actually go there, so it was all wasted in the end. I'd really do things differently if I could go back.

I think I kept a pretty good balance in college. I graduated with a 3.5 GPA. I probably could have gotten a 4.0 if I had put in more effort but then my friendships would have suffered. I'm still close with many of those people, so I wouldn't trade my social experiences for a better GPA. I don't think it would have made much of a difference in my career, anyway.

Academically, yes. It was important to me to do well in school! I wish I had gotten more involved in activities though! In the end, my degree got me a job I wanted and I can still say I had a blast along the way, so I would call it successful!

I grew up "poor" from a small town with no university anywhere nearby, so since my living expenses were the biggest cost it was important that I got my degree done fast, but I also had to work full time.
So, I worked graveyard shift and went to school and studied in the day. I got pretty decent grades, but they could have been better if I had more time to study/didn't show up for tests straight from work... and I had absolutely no social life.

Well, I am a huge nerd who busted my butt all through college academically, and graduated with honors and am now getting a phd in the same subject as my undergrad major, so academically, I do think I did. There are a couple things I'd change about my path (individual classes I wish I had or had not taken, maybe a different study abroad program than the one I did), but mostly it's served me very well!

Socially, I grew more post-college in the four years I worked before returning to grad school. I sometimes wish I'd done more during college, but I was so focused on academics that I couldn't handle much else without letting those slip.

Well, I make the most of it, but it's not directly what I do now lol. My program was Linguistics, Arts & Languages and my major was Theatre. I work as a graphic designer now. I don't regret not focusing on graphic design, since I did lots of various art courses instead (painting, animation, poetry...) that I think opened me up more as a designer. Also I would totally do the four productions I did in Theatre over again if I could... so much fun!!

Nope. I had no idea what I wanted to do with a sociology/criminology/political science background. And still don't. So then I went to law school, except I hate being a lawyer. So not good planning on my part at all haha.

I had a great GPA but I don't think I really made "the most" of it I could. I didn't really study (never needed too) so I did decent, but could have graduated with a 4.0! My frist year I switched my major to business because "it was easier" for me, I took the easy way out and now wish I wuld have stuck wtih nursing becasue that was something I think i would have been passionate about having a career instead of what feels like a 'Job."

I like to think I did! I changed my major (undeclared in Arts and Sciences) to Finance in School of Management, and you had to have a certain GPA to do that, plus I was on the honor roll every semester.

I didn't have a ton of relevant work experience, but I ended up in a 2 year program in a firm right after graduation and I've worked here for almost 15 years now. I was able to pay off all my student loans and I've even gotten a advanced degree, company paid.

I also think timing paid a huge role in it all, it was before all of the Y2K issues, the internet bubble burst, etc, so people entering the job market the first 5 years when I was working had it a bit rougher.

Maybe not. I think I made the best of my college EXPERIENCE; learned a lot about people, relationships, independence, etc. But my career now is not what I studied in college, and I don't think my college degree or GPA really helped me get my 1st job haha.

I was really unimpressed by college my freshmen year, and just checked out a lot of books from the library and studied stuff on my own. In retrospect, that was extremely dumb because my grades suffered and I spent the next few years recovering from that. A lot of corporate recruiting is dependent on GPAs, so I had no idea what I was thinking!!

The summer after freshman year, I studied a lot and hit the ground running my sophomore year. From that point on, I really tried to get a lot out of my college education. I still did independent studies when I could, but by that point I had learned to structure a formal independent study and to get it approved by professors for class credit. I made a decision to get an Engineering minor my senior year, and that turned out to be a good decision... it's just a very pragmatic way to think and served me well right out of college.

Did you make the most of your college education?
