@kml636: I have pretty much day weaned LO (I am down to one pumping session a day at work, or one afternoon nursing session at home on the weekends), and I just got my period back last week. LO turned 10 months on July 1st. :)

I'm in the same place. No period, TTC at the end of this year... thinking of weaning around 10 months if nothing happens soon.

@PrincessBaby: *Augh!* I totally feel for you, and I am so so sorry you are dealing with all of this! Moving sucks (sucks major ass, even when you're happy about the change!) . . . and your baby girl not sleeping only adds to it!

My definition of STTN is a little different than most . . . for me, if BabyGloss sleeps for 6 hours straight, I consider it a total win! I have to add a caveat though that she will still wake and fuss, sometimes 2-3 times a night, but I don't go in to get her unless she fusses for approximately 10 minutes (I track her sleep using the Timer on my iPhone . . . I start the clock when I leave her nursery, and then if she fusses/wakes, I use the *lap* feature to time those events . . . at the end of the night, I can see the total time slept, and also all of the individual parts and pieces, i.e., big blocks of sleep, and fussy time, so that I have a more clear picture of just how much sleep she got, and the impact that may have on the next day). She has been averaging 9-9.5 hours a night, with 1-2 fussy periods each night. (She goes down between 6:30 and 7:00, so she usually wakes for a feed around 4-4:30 . . . if she wakes earlier than that, like around 2, I will nurse her in the nursery and put her back down in her crib). Have you tried letting her fuss for a couple of minutes before going in to *rescue* her?

I don't blame you for bringing MissH to bed with you . . . BabyGloss slept with me for 9 months until we moved to our new house at the end of May. (With me, baby girl, and at least one if not two kitties, there was practically no room for DH in his own bed!) I still bring LO to bed with me for the early morning feedings (around 4 a.m.) and then just let her sleep with us until we get up for good around 6. I say whatever you find works best is what you should go with - *rules* be damned!

And I wouldn't worry too much about creating bad habits . . . once you are in your new house (so excited for you!!!) and in a new environment, you will have the perfect opportunity to create new habits (of MissH sleeping solo in her nursery again).

BIG (((hugs))) mama!

I started a thread a week or so ago about how to wean a nursaholic lol. My DD LOVES her some boob and i already know it'll be a difficult thing to do. I was thinking of weaning at the year mark, but still undecided. She loves it so much and it is seriously a miracle worker- puts her right to sleep, calms her down when she is upset, and if she happens to take a short nap i can nurse her right back to sleep. I don't know what I will do when I stop!!! I somehow got my period at 8ish weeks PP though even though I am EBFing and she doesn't STTN and nurses A LOT!

on another note, your posts are too funny, they make me LOL. Poor H and poor mama though! Anyone's sleep would get out of whack with all of that going on!! I am sure once you guys move into your house and she is back in her crib in a nice quiet neighborhood things will calm down. In the meantime, I would just do anything to maximize everyone's sleep- aint no shame in that!

LO self-weaned at just shy of 2.5 years. We were both ready, and I only missed it a little. If I have future LOs, I intend to let them self-wean too, because it worked so well for us. (And, to be honest, I'm a little lazy--I am highly motivated to not wash bottles and have instant peace and quiet without much effort! BFing was just the easier route for me.)

Oh honey, so sorry about the noise and lack of sleep. We resort to pulling LO into bed with us most mornings, as he is an early riser (like 4:30-4;45am early). It isn't ideal, but it makes me feel alittle less loopy to get a bit more rest while nursing.

I don't know what I'm going to do once we wean. I'm hoping he'll just do it on his own, but I can't see that happening. He's 11 months today and shows no signs of giving it up anytime soon. I'm hoping once we introduce milk after a year taht I can cut out the two daytime feedings and still keep the morning and nighttime ones. I'd also like to start NTNP at the end of this year, early next year so that will play into it as well. I'll be 33 this year too, so I know how you feel about wanting to try sooner than later.

We're not going to wean until she's ready. I don't think she's ready yet considering yesterday, at 2pm (not a time she normally nurses) she started tapping on my chest and staring at my boobs. Someone wanted something. Ha!

I know a lot of women who have gotten pregnant while still nursing, it's possible!

M is almost 13 months now. At 11 months, we transitioned her daytime milk to whole milk in straw cups and are down to only nursing int he morning, after work, before bed and at any overnight wake-ups. I got my period back last month. I think weaning those daytime pumps/nurse sessions brought my cycle back for me.

OH and I had her the year I turned 35. :)

@PrincessBaby: How often are you nursing? There may be a chance to get ovulation to return if you are still just nursing a few times a day.

I do really miss it sometimes. My D loves her "milkies" too. She constantly has her hand down my shirt or just wants to lay her head on them (she prefers skin to skin).

I think I missed it more with my first one b/c I weaned him at 8 months due to his dairy and soy protein allergies. With my youngest he self weaned around close to 14 months. He all of a sudden just started nursing really fast. He would be done with both sides within 7-10 minutes. Sometimes even 5 minutes. And he never looked back. :) I guess if I wasn't so busy I would miss it but I don't now. I remember the days of grabbing at my shirt. It is really cute!

@PrincessBaby: I was wondering how you guys were getting on, I remember you were going to sleep train around the same time we were - did you try it? We didn't, I bottled it. The result of my wimpiness is that she has zero naps in her crib: zero, nada, zip. I have to lie with her the whole time. She still nurses to sleep and wakes up around three times in the night, then I bring her to bed with me at about 6am to try get a few more hours. And the last few nights she hasn't gone down till 11pm. And we are wanting to TTC in November, so have to think about taking away the boob too. I have all my fingers crossed that I can start ovulating on my own (I'm starting acupuncture again in September to try trigger it) and can just carry on breastfeeding because girlfriend is a boob fanatic. Annnd, we're going to Spain then England next month, so even if I try sort her sleep out now, it will go crazy town again during the trip. Ouch. If we're lucky enough to have another, I will sooo tackle sleep differently. End vent, ha ha. Hope H's sleep gets better soon.

@PrincessBaby: i haven't weaned yet, but i know i am going to miss it! and BTW, L was waking 3-5 times per night for a long time until recently - we got a softer mattress for his crib and give him a nice cozy blanket instead of a sleep sack and he immediately went down to one night waking! i am thinking about getting a bumper as well because i think his one waking often comes from bumping into the sides of the crib. Basically by going against all recommendations, he sleeps better, LOL. But he is almost 8 months old so I am not worried about SIDS.

Oh girl! Poor thing, that is hard! We are bouncing around now and it's so hard keeping a consistent schedule. Have you tried white noise to drown out the noise? That works for my LO at least! Also I got prego while bf'ing! Once DS started more solids I guess that's when af returned and boom two cycles later and still breastfeeding and I'm knocked up! I thought about weaning because my boobs hurt so bad but the boob does fix everything and its sooooo convenient! Never thought I'd make it 10 months!

@rachiecakes: Thank you!

@MsLipGloss: Girl! If only H STTN!!!! I dont think it would work bc there are like 407 reasons why HomeGirl wakes up 3-5 times a night...I haven't even posted about it on HB bc it's almost embarassing how in the toilet my kid's sleep is, AND what I do about it. Here's the deal:
1.). We moved from SoFlo to Charleston. H's crib went into storage with the movers. After tons of research, I buy the Baby Bjorn travel crib for H to sleep on in this vacation rental until we close on the house we're building in Aug. it's better than a PNP, but different than her crib, and smaller too. H usually covers every inch of her crib while sleeping, so I guess in this smaller crib with less room, she rolls into the sides and wakes herself up.
2.). We are leasing temporarily on King St. It is loud as f*ck and that's putting it mildly. I knew there'd be foot traffic noise but had no idea the Cisco trucks, etc, that start making deliveries to the restaurants/bars at 330 and 4 am, with their beeper reverse noises and air brakes. Not to mention that everyone shouts to conversate as they pass our condo. I wish sometimes I had a paint ball gun, and I could sit in the windowsill (like I am now) watching them walk by, and take the loud ones out one by one (the windows open- it's actually very dangerous!)
3.) 1.5 werks after moving to the condo/using Bjorn crib, she and I go to stay with my family in la for a week. So yet another new place/new crib.
4.) She is teething. Keeps pulling her ears and running low-grade fever. Brought her to dr to check for ear infection and there is none, so all we can guess is that she will maybe cut a tooth soon.

We are a hot mess. Please tell me what to do with all that!!!

I was just thinking about this the other day. My goal is one year, but it is so nice to have the boobs ready and available at a moments notice.

Yes, very much, but the weaning transition has been much easier than I expected. I was super worried about ending the mute button (nursing) but he's doing surprisingly well in the transition. At 10 months pp, AF returned, which goes right with him eating more solids. We have just gradually been dropping feedings here and there, and now only nurse once every few days at 18 months.

I've also hit a point this past week that I have been so done with nursing- I have literally been dreading weaning on my end because I like nursing, but I've hit a point that I am ok with not nursing anymore.

@PrincessBaby: would you consider partially weaning H? I am dayweaning my LO, and I just, after 10 months, got my period back this week. I am pretty sure it was the combination of reduced BFing and LO mostly STTN. I still BF at night and the early a.m. If it doesn't work after a month or two, you could completely wean and go from there.

My kids are 15 months and its been about a month and half since I weaned. Yes, I miss it! I miss their drunken, satisfied faces after they finished.
