We bought and moved into our house about halfway through the pregnancy. I'm very grateful that we moved when we did. Our old apartment wasn't the least bit baby friendly, and I've been able to get settled and nest. Moving is never easy; I'd rather do it while baby is still in utero and low-maintenance!

We moved when I was about 3 months pregnant. It wasn't a big deal, since I wasn't big enough or uncomfortable enough to find it annoying. I definitely would rather move before baby though--I have a 1 month old now and cannot imagine having to apartment search, pack, etc. with a baby and being sleep deprived/feeling out of sorts!

We moved when I was 7 months pregnant. It was definitely not fun but the upside was that there were plenty of organizational opportunities once nesting hit. As hard as it was to move while pregnant I'd much rather do that than move now with a 6 week old!

We moved at the beginning of my third trimester with TG. We were living in a one bedroom basement suite because Mr SH was in school. It was too small and not terribly soundproof, so it wouldn't have worked at all.

we moved when i was 5 months pregnant. we considered staying in our 1-bedroom apartment for another year, but i figured it would just mean for stuff to move with all the baby crap. that being said, i did consider staying in the 1-bedroom and putting the baby in a little nook that we had, but childcare costs were prohibitively expensive in our old neighborhood so we had to move anyway.

I posted previously about peoples' experiences with a newborn and most everyone said it was/way easier to move while pregnant - but that wasn't/isn't an option for us due to timing :) So, we'll be moving next month approximately 2-4 weeks after I give birth (hurry up baby!) to a new house, in a different state.

If I were you, I'd try to move now. It is part of the fun/settling in to get a space ready for baby, and if you want to move anyways it'll be easier when you don't have a tiny tot to negotiate. For example, we're going to sleep in a hotel because we're worried about the cold with people in/out..I bought a little travel bassinet because I don't want to worry about setting up a crib in the hotel.. do-able but if you can avoid it, do!

We moved when I was 6 months pregnant. We were living in a townhouse that I owned but we wanted to be in a house before LO arrived. The move was stressful but I'm glad looking back that we choose this path.

@mrs. bird: We are tenant at will, so we just have to give something like 45 days notice. Our landlord is pretty good about that stuff. The other complication is DH has a really big exam the first weekend of June, and if everything goes according to plan, I'm due at the very end of July, so I think the window is pretty small for a good time to move. Right now, we are pretty much saying we will start looking casually in Feb or Mar, after the first trimester, and if something great came up we would jump on it. I agree about the mini crib, but since we know we want a 2-3 bedroom within the first 6 months, it seems silly to purchase specific furniture for such a small time frame. I guess I'm answering my own questions.

@Foodnerd81: you can totally put a baby in a walk in closet if you need to! just get a mini crib, they even have mini cribs with changers attached. babies have been fine in far worse situations = ) that said, moving is super stressful & a pain in the butt. some people are good movers & it's NBD to them, i loathe moving, so i'd totally want to move pre baby. that way you can get it all nice and clean and arranged just how you want it, you don't have to try to pack/unpack with a LO around. but if you're a good mover, then it might not be a big deal. maybe just start looking, do you have a lease? depending on your lease renewal time or if you're tenant at will, you could just look and if you find the perfect place, great, if not, mini crib the kid in the walk in closet & start looking when you're ready.

I am in middle of a move with a little one now. DS is 6 weeks old, and he makes it pretty hard to get much done. This move has been hard because DH has been working a lot of overtime. Luckily my mom has been helping me get everything together and she will be here loading the truck tomorrow. Moving is hard no matter when you do it. Just make sure you are surrounded by a lot of support.

We moved when my three boys were 2 and I was 6 months pregnant. Moving with kids - not easy. Moving while pregnant - not easy. So just go for it and go it whenever you have the chance. I think moving while pregnant is easier than during those first few months when babies are so demanding.

We are in process to buy right now! I'm 12w2d. We should close by the end of the year and be moved in in January. Our situation is a little different from yours though - we had been intending to buy anyway in the next year, so just moved up our timeline a little bit to be sure we were done by April. I don't think it would be terrible to move with a LO though - moving always sucks. I am happy that if this place works out, we should be moved before we've gotten a ton of baby stuff, so won't be having to find a home for that stuff twice.

@Foodnerd81: I feel you on wanting to decorate a nursery! Stupid pinterest. We are at an awkward phase where I don't know if we'll stay in the area/relocate or keep renting/buy a place...so many what ifs! Good luck figuring things out; I'm sure it will work out no matter which option you choose.

@tororojo: I did consider the money saving on not having a nursery-- but of course, that combines with me WANTING to go nuts decorating a nursery! We will be team green, so i don't think we (I) would go too crazy anyway. We've pretty much narrowed down our next move neighborhood, but like you, definitely don't know where our long term home will be. We definitely have another apartment in our future before a house that we buy.

We live in a big one bedroom with a pretty open floor plan, and we're planning to move next fall (LO is due in Feb so she'll be 6 months or so). I think it's saved us a lot of $$ already since we aren't buying a ton of unnecessary crap for decorating a nursery! And this way I can say no when people offer things I don't want--"sorry, we don't have room in our apt!" Would love to be in a house or bigger apt, but I think the 3 of us will be fine where we are for awhile and this works best for us financially/logistically...we don't know where we want to live yet!

I moved at 5 mo pregnant from out of state to a rental. Then we bought a house when DD was 2 mo ( I actually tripped and fell down the stairs while holding DD so this prompted us to buy a one story, she was ok). Then we moved once more while pregnant with DS. Having done it both ways, PG and non-PG, I definitely recommend moving before you have the baby, it makes life a little easier.

we moved when I was about 5 months pregnant. We were living on the UES of Manhattan in a large one bedroom apartment, but I wanted Liv to have her own bedroom. So we moved right across the river. Now she s 16 months old and we just bought a house, so we'll be moving next week. Based on experiences so far-Id say move before the baby comes.

@artbee: Yeah the more I think about it, it does probably make sense to just move before... I figure there would be a 3 month minimum window that I would NOT want to move (1 month before to 2 months after). We just really like our apartment, but it would be easier to just set it up from the start. Plus then we could have visitors sleep in the nursery while future LO is with us in the bedroom in the beginning.
