@duckduckkristen: thx. Have tried it sporadically. Today he cried 15 mins and I caved and rescued him. Might start fresh for the first nap tomorrow.

@winniebee: he cried for less than 10 minutes at nap time. I didn't even need to go in at all to check on him.

I don't think I need to do CIO at night (yet) as he seems to have turned a corner....but think I need to do it for naps....how long did you let him cry for a nap?

I nap trained three times.

First when he was 6 weeks I figured out that he needed help to go to sleep or he'd be up all day (duh Mommy!) and at that time I'd bounce him to sleep.

Then with the 4 month sleep regression it was more of a figuring-out-timing thing for me and I was nursing him to sleep. If my timing was just right, he'd nurse to sleep and have a nice long sleep. If my timing was wrong, he'd nurse and not sleep, or he'd wake up as soon as I put him down and not re-settle.

Now that we did CIO, I did CIO for naps too, but sticking with the timing issues that I learned about with the nurse-to-sleep naps. And speaking of naps, he's sleeping his first one for the day right now. :)

We did CIO for naps at the same time that we started it for nighttime, right after he turned four months old. It's been a couple weeks and now he regularly takes naps over an hour long in his own crib!

When? Did it work?

It's getting a little ridiculous. I can't put my 4 month old down for an afternoon nap anywhere but the carseat, stroller, or my arms. He'll be drowsy or even basically asleep when I put him in his crib and he wakes up screaming 15 mins later. I've tried shortening and lengthening awake times, routines, etc. Thinking of starting nap bootcamp (ie, letting him cry it out for naps) this week.
