@Anagram: ugh sorry! Naps have never been easy for us, but her night sleep is usually ok. Your Lo is a little older than C right? 4 month sleep regression?

@Foodnerd81: I'm still on the middle of whatever is happening to my formerly easy baby--- no napping (unless it's on me) and a thousand wakeups at night. And it's been 1 1/2 weeks now. It's horrible. So we are also thinking about sleep training. And soon!

@Cherrybee: you, me, and lawbee are always on the same page!

I am super happy to say I think we are through the growth spurt! She had a seven hour stretch of sleep last night and went back down no problem after her motn feed. Thank god. But I do think eventually we will use a CIO method. I guess January will do, though it seems so far away!

I used the exact same timing for nap training as we did for night training. My son is a creature of habit and when I tried not to nap train at the same time as night training, he would go longer and longer crying at night. My husband was wondering what was happening, as I wasn't being honest about what I was doing during the day.

Optimal time for us was much later, we're talking 11 months, but for some babies, 6 months is just fine.

I love that you are always thinking the same things as me! I have been researching sleep training for the last few days and am convinced that some sort of controlled crying method is for us. I just need to wait until she is old enough!! Mrs Bees blog post suggested that 4 months is a bad time to sleep train. 5.5 was the optimum time. I have therefore set sleep training as my new years resolution - that gives me 6 weeks to get her into a good pattern before I go back to work.

We didn't intend to, but getting a handle on naps helped tremendously at night. After nap training (which was super hard for us) she dropped all but one night wake up. When it was time to drop that one it was a breeze.

Not to thread jack, but how do you nap train Ferber style? We're on morning 2 of Ferber sleep training and are thinking we may as well do naps at the same time...

@Foodnerd81: FWIW after one night of Ferber his naps had improved!

@Foodnerd81: haha, okay, I wasn't sure what your stance was on it. I know there are a lot of people around here who are REALLY against it. But yeah, it worked for us. C is a fantastic sleeper, so obviously it works. The first 3-4 days are the worst but it gets better really quickly.

@loveisstrange: I'm fine with CIO- from what I've read I feel like it will be best for us- it will suck for a couple of days then get much better. I hope. Like ripping off a bandaid all at once.

It will be one time I'll wish we didn't live in a condo building though- sorry neighbors.

We did. Naps settled down first and then she fell into 1 wakeup for a couple months. Then at 6 months, I felt she wasn't hungry at her motn wakeup, so we night weaned her and she started sleeping straight through and has since.

I will say that we did use Ferber/CIO. It worked well for us. I know it's not for everyone.

I am going freaking insane with the sleep over here. I think we have a 3 month growth spurt happening so she was up every two hours last night. Now currently 3:40 am and she won't go back to sleep after her motn feeding- the one and only time she usually goes to sleep without a problem. I can handle the wake ups, nurse, put down, but not this up, nurse, bounce rock put down pick up nurse again in desperation thing we have happening. Not to mention the only naps she will take are while nursing, with boob in mouth, or if I'm lucky, in the stroller. So yeah, I'm tapped out.

So my question is, if you sleep trained did you do naps and night sleep at the same time? I'm thinking we will start at the four month mark. She is able to sleep long stretches and has slept through the night, but is incapable of putting herself to sleep. I'm so exhausted. And no naps at all is just wearing me down faster.
