Most companies just find out from your doctor, but my OB told me that my company is one of the ones that requires that I officially call and notify them. I'm not sure why that is. And I know that they would still cover the pregnancy if I didn't notify them. BUT I'm sure there is some sort of reason for it. </p> <p>Since my OB told me that my insurance company requires it, I'm going to go ahead and do it. (I forgot till I saw this post!) My OB had to "announce" me at the hospital where I was going to deliver, as the insurance I had covered my delivery in a hospital in one county, not where my doc had rights to deliver. They continued to call every few months to make sure both me and the babies were doing well — I guess this is in their best interest too, since they would need to pay more if something were to go wrong. My online insurance profile shows my confirmed pregnancy date and that was sufficient for me. I never notified them directly about my pregnancy but they I assume they are aware of it since they have covered all the prenatal visits, ultrasounds and lab work. I only paid the copay for the first OB visit. Do I still need to notify them? </p>
