I don't really think that making sure what my LO is watching, playing, doing is age-appropriate is "censorship". I wouldn't let him drive a car when he's 10 and I also won't let him play Call of Duty when he's 8. There's a time and place for everything :)

My parents were very strict about TV when I was young. We watched a lot of PBS shows and what they considered "quality" programming for children. We also played a lot of board games with them as opposed to watching TV. I don't feel like I missed anything that I couldn't catch up on when I was older...

I used to work with young children and you better believe I will sensor what my kids watch, read and listen to. Ive tried to teach an exhausted third grader that has nightmares because of the horror movies his parents watch with him and tried to explain to an 8 year old why the f word and talking about sex in school arent appropriate. I also think that censorship should be age appropriate and realistic. By the time I was in high school, pretty much everything was fair game. To be fair, not all kids react the same way to the same stimuli, I just don't understand why a child needs to watch family guy or horror movies.

my parents never censored anything, they figured we just we wouldn't understand if we were too little. And I had an older brother, so it would have been hard to let him read/watch things that I couldn't. I read "The Godfather" when I was in 6th grade because I wasn't allowed to watch it if I hadn't read it first, and THAT was a little too extreme, the book is even more graphic than the movie! I don't think the not censoring anything negatively affected us in any way--we knew the difference between real life and movies, for example, and what was appropriate behavior in real life vs on screen--but I think I'll probably censor a bit more than they did.

Television, not much. Certainly not past the age of about 10, except maybe very violent things. But Ren and Stimpy, Sex and the City, Southpark - these were all things I watched as a child/teen, and it had a positive affect on me. Books, never. Music, never.

The internet is another thing, and my husband and I have really been struggling with it. He and I both had unlimited access to the internet (such as it was in the early 90s) when we were young, and it was beneficial to us. But things are so, so different now, and I worry about teenagers doing typical dumb teenage stuff with lasting repercussions. Like, what about those stupid kids who trashed that house and put it on instagram? Sure, we'd all like to think that our children will be perfect and responsible - but let's be real. Most of us did at least a few genuinely stupid things as teenagers, and hopefully those things didn't follow us for the rest of our lives. I worry that the modern internet makes it harder for teenagers to do dumb things with out terribly lasting repercussions.

My parents (my mom was much more vigilant than my dad) censored a lot. I definitely think censorship should be age based & I don't want to ever make a big deal of it. My parents censorship was handled in a way that often made me think less of certain people for watching certain things & as I got older, it made me feel like I was being treated like a baby. I think there is a certain point in your child's life where you have to step back & say that while there are certain movies/shows you will not watch with them or take them to see but you aren't keeping them from it either. I think there is a line between protecting a young mind & being over-protective.

None at all growing up (I used to refuse to sleep until I could watch Johnny Carson's monologue when I was in preschool). Obviously, I think we'll try to sensor out violence and such a bit more than my folks did (kindergarteners watching SNL is probably not the best, but likely where my sarcastic wit comes from). TV in moderation in general will be our goal, and making sure something's not wildly inappropriate, but not much for censoring beyond that.

I wasn't allowed to watch the Simpsons, Roseanne, My So Called Life (even though I snuck that one...) and 90210.

I don't want to say we will censor things (everyone seems to have their own definition of what show is good or bad..) but we will make a judgement call when necessary. I won't be letting my kid watch Family Guy, for instance.

We only had one tv and no VCR growing up so we could only watch what Mum and Dad deemed appropriate. My mother also gave piano lessons after school so the TV didn't go on till it was news time.

If we wanted anything video-ed we had to ask my Grandfather (he had the VCR) and he was very picky about what he'd record for us!

My older sister and I were almost never censored, and my younger siblings were only censored from Rugrats because my little sis would act like Angelica if she watched it. I think censoring has its pros and cons, but we plan to censor quite a bit more on the violence and scary stuff. I just don't like it.

My mom censored us from Rocko's Modern Life and Ren and Stimpy when we were kids. Looking back on those shows now I can see why she did.

I don't think they make kids shows like those anymore but if they did I wouldn't hesitate to keep my kids from watching them. Other things I will be pretty relaxed on with the exception of movies out of their age range.

There were quite a few shows we weren't allowed to watch as kids, but as we got older my parents gave us more leeway with what we chose to watch. I think most of their objections were pretty reasonable, and I will probably censor some with my own children.

I'll probably follow the age guidelines from Common Sense Media. I find them to be pretty useful... just looked up the Muppet Christmas Carol recently, and discovered it's probably a bit too scary for our four year old.

Not that much. I did have an older brother (8 yrs older) so they made an effort when I was really young (like under 10) to not let me watch the worst stuff he watched-- bevis and butthead, horror movies, etc. But I was generally always allowed to watch more than my friends did, and I could watch R rated movies (if they were rated R for violence) by early middle school. I don't think I'll censor much for my kids, I don't really see the point.

My parents censored all sorts of stuff: Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Simpsons, I don't remember. Anything that the actors weren't wholesome or something. I don't know I thought it was crazy.

I don't know how much I will censor. I feel as if there are things kids shouldn't see at certain ages. I know many kids his age have seen the Marvel movies but he won't be until he is 5 or older. There is a reason some movies are PG 13. I will watch things first and then let him watch them. I will watch things with him so that we can discuss everything that happened.

There were a few shows that we were not supposed to watch, but I think for the most part if my parent's didn't think it was appropriate I wasn't interested anyway. Hopefully our kids will follow the rules like I did and we won't have to censor much.
