I used to sing a specific song each day on my way home from work for the baby, and when she was brand new I sang it and she calmed right down. Also, what he was playing probably wasn't the best thing for the babies to hear. It was Pantera (heavy metal). But I haven't purposefully played music for the baby. I wouldn't use headphones because the amniotic fluid amplifies the sound and music that's too loud or too often can cause hearing issues. I also played a lot of classical music while driving to and from work, to try to relax us both.</p> <p>Also, DH read to LO *a lot* in utero. He just sat very near my belly and talked a little louder than usual, and read her all sorts of books and articles and things. It was pretty amazing – I went to a lecture series at about 8 months pregnant where DH was speaking and LO was pretty still for all the speakers. As soon as DH started speaking over the microphone, she started moving all around and bugging out!! I never used headphones though since amniotic fluid can carry sound very well.
