Yes, the background of the story is awful, but the book is more about her watching her family go through grief and their recovery process, while the movie focuses more on the rapist (or so it seemed to me).</p> <p>An interesting note too, the author was a victim of rape and wrote a book, "Lucky," about her experience. It was still a page turner and well written. I also watched the movie long after I read the book and really liked how it was done.
