I think of this often- poor second kid gets the shaft! I definitely don't read to him as much as my first.

I feel like each subsequent kid gets more books because the older sibling(s) want to read so we all sit together and read books. I started reading one book a night when my oldest was a few months old but he wasn't interested until he was a toddler. In comparison, my second and third get to read several books a day from the very beginning.

Yes we do because she is way more interested in books than her big brother. Also at 2 and nearly 4 they now enjoy the same stories so we actually read bedtime stories together.

Yes...and in your defense, a 14 month old sitting for board books is great! LO1 wouldn't sit for books until he was about 14 months. We read to him much more now that he's 4.5, but I gauge LO2's reading like I did LO1 at that age. So we also read LO1 board books before bed, and he's 17 months. LO1 didn't start showing interest in longer books until about 2.5 or 3....so that's when I'm expecting LO2 will show interest in more.

Just keep doing what you're doing...I think exposing them to books at any age is great!

Our second kiddo loves books like his brother. They both want more and more books during bedtime routine.

No. He just never took to books like our oldest. He's just now asking for books before bed, but he doesn't like us to read them, he likes to point how things he knows and tell us what they are. I figure any interest in books is a win!

Same here, he also has less attention span for reading than the older one. I think just do your best!

Bwahahahaha. No.

We always joke we will be lucky if my second child knows what a book is, whereas my first was read to almost contstantly (and we still somehow manage to read him 3 books each night for bed while the 2nd is tossed into his crib without anything  )

I find it hard to spend as much time reading with DS2 and he won't sit still long enough to read the longer books I read with DS1. I'm worried I am depriving him, but it feels a bit overwhelming. Currently I read him three board books while he gets his milk bottle at bedtime. (He is almost 14 months).
