Are you willing to buy second hand or borrow for future kids? Is it likely you know someone (a sibling, cousin, or close friend) who might have gear available for you to borrow? If so, and if you're not particularly nostalgic about your personal gear, I'd definitely sell. Most gear holds it's value, but I tend to think that as new items come out (think: the Mamaroo), older model items become less popular and lose some resale value (Fisher price swings/bouncers become less desirable since the Mamaroo is the "must have").

I'm currently pregnant with #3 and we've kept our things because we always had the space (and tried to lend some things out to clear space) - after this baby, the only thing I'll hold onto is our Moses basket, because I'm sentimental about it (and I think that my LO's could use it, either for dolls or their own kids or both).

We moved across the country when DD1 was 2, and then again when DD2 was 8m, and now I'm pregnant with LO3. Even though we always knew we were a 2-maybe-3 family, I really only kept the things that either we were still using at the time of the move (crib, PNP, stroller) or things we loved and would for-sure use again with a second -- the infant car seat, a handful of my favorite clothes for each age (they had to be unstained, good condition), the bjorn bouncer, the clip-on high chair seat. That honestly might be it. We got rid of anything that was just meh (jumperoo), or things that were REALLY easy/cheap to replace used (boppy, bumbo). It's worked out fine -- I've never regretted getting rid of any of it, but was also happy to not have to buy a brand new car seat or whatever.

Just made this decision this week as we are packing and moving in 10 days!
We haven't decided if we're having #3, but I didn't want to move all of the baby stuff. I've sold all of the big items and some of the toys. I have kept all of the clothes.
The local facebook tag sale groups are really active where we are, so I sold the items pretty easily. And we figured that if we do decide to go for #3 those things will be easy to find used or potentially borrow from friends or family.

@Cole: In theory I liked it since I could sleep in the bed and LO could be eye level next to me in the bassinet just like in the hospital.

DH only bought it once we came home from the hospital and the bassinet we already had was too low and uncomfortable for me to place LO in it and get him out of due to my cesarean. I didn't find the Halo anymore comfortable to use though. We tried it in our master and guest bed, but both were too high. I had a hard enough time getting in and out of the beds without pain (a step stool did help). We ultimately kept the Halo in the guest room because we could slide the base further under the bed. I had to stand on my tippy toes to clear the Halo walls to put the baby inside before getting in bed. Then, if I needed to get him out I just wasn't strong enough to sit up in the bed and use my muscles to lower the adjustable side and get baby out. It was really a PITA. We still have it set up, but for a while now our LO has simply out grown it. When he opens his arms out he hits the mesh and startles himself awake.

Your bed and body strength situation may be different where the Halo makes sense. For us, it just didn't work.

ETA: in the first 2 weeks when I really had a painful time engaging my stomach the baby slept on us mostly and neither bassinet was used all that much. If DH hadn't panicked about the bassinet the first night there wouldn't have been a need to get it at all. If you know you'll use it immediately go for it.

We were on a maybe #3 train. We did a really big purge of baby stuff. Sold or donated all the bigger gear. Got rid of anything stained or mis matched. Random things that we didn't really use with baby 1 or baby 2 we got rid of assuming we wont need for baby 3.

It really hasn't been that bad rebuying what we need now that baby #3 is on her way. Big things like the swing, the play mat, RNP, etc were all purchased used/second hand. People are still gifting us clothes even though we have a bunch we saved. We have one toy box (shoe box size) that we saved of baby toys and that will be enough.

We sold! We recently brought a ton of stuff to a consignment shop and sold the bigger items like a mamaroo on Craigslist. I don't think we'd repurchase it all again if we have a third. Some items we'd like to have again, but many of the things we sold we can get along without.

We sold or donated a lot of the bigger toy items (exersaucer, jumparoo) and stored things like the car seat or the other smaller toys. Once we are done, I will donate or sell everything.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: did you not like the halo bassinet? It's like the one thing I want for baby 2 but it's so pricey!

I thankfully borrowed but I have a lot of friends who sell immediately because we have a great buy/sell group locally and it would be easy enough to buy it back or borrow from someone. So much of that stuff is so expensive and only used for 3-5 months!

That being said, in your shoes, if I bought it new, I'd keep it if we were more than 60% sure on another baby.

We might sell the Halo bassinet, but everything else we plan to keep in anticipation of baby #2.

One of the guest room closets is a roomy walk in and gear & too small clothes will go in there.

If you were a maybe done/maybe not family, did you sell all your gear or store it in case you went for another child?

We are a maybe 3 family and getting ready to put our house up for sale. I want to get rid of all our baby stuff instead of storing it but DH thinks that's a waste of money in case we need it in another 2 years. I completely understand where he's coming from but it's so much and so bulky! what did you do?
