Nope! I had complications during delivery so the nurses bothered (some of them were a little rough/rude)/checked me pretty much every hour or so. I didn't even put LO in the isolette, I just kept her in bed with me.

No, I did not. We had the option to, but they really encouraged rooming in unless the baby needed extra care. As it was I couldn't stand to be away from him for very long.

I didn't sleep in the hospital anyway, what with the seemingly hourly checks from the nurse. I got one nap in with DH the second day while my mom held DS.

I did with both LO. With DD (my first) the nurses were very good about bringing her back when she needed to eat again (they would put a note on her bassinet that said "take back to nurse at x time"). With DS the nurses were more lax and I had to call the nursery for him to be brought back; not really sure why the change since it was the same hospital but we were only there for 24hr so it wasn't too big a deal.

For DD, I sent her back to the nursery, and I wish I hadn't. They ended up pushing me to give her formula along with nursing her since she had a dry diaper, and I was too exhausted to argue. I wasn't as successful bf'ing her as I wanted to be. For DS, I kept him in in the room and made sure to nurse him every 2-3 hr even though my parents and DH thought I was crazy. We were much more successful on the BF this time.

We did, for about an hour, during the day. It was the day after she was born and DH went home to get change clothes and rest for an hour or so. I wanted a shower so badly, plus I was exhausted! They offered to take her so that I could have a little rest. When they brought her back, she had a paci, which I was okay with. They told me that she had fussed a bit, so they held her since she was the only baby in the nursery. I appreciated being told that they held her.

We did from 11pm to 6am- I cried when they took her the first time but I was exhausted after laboring then an emergency c-section. She was brought in every 3 hours to breastfeed and has been EBF since, no issues. We were in the hospital 4 nights and I am thankful I got that extra sleep. I couldn't sleep when she was around at first because I kept checking to make sure she was breathing. New mama fears.

They do not have a nursery that you can send LO to. They have a nursery for procedures and that but not for sleeping.

I remember that first night, she finally fell asleep and my husband and I were like, How are we just supposed to sleep with no one watching her!

We did for 2 out of 3 nights in the hospital. They brought DS to me when he cried or every 4 hours, whichever came first. They offered him a pacifier only when I approved it, but he rejected every one they tried so it didn't matter in the end. I'm glad he was in the nursery the first night. I was tired from laboring over a day and still out of it from my c section. We should have just kept him in on night 2 to get used to it. I didn't get any extra sleep because I was being woken often by the nurses, anyway.

No. Babies at my hospital room with the moms, and the nursery is generally for babies who need extra care. I wasn't going to take attention away from those babies just so I could get some sleep... I figured caring for my baby was my responsibility!
I actually slept ok in the hospital. My poor husband did not though.

I did not have the option, LO was sent to the NICU, but for my next child I won't be sending her to the nursery. I didn't get to be with my daughter in our room the first time around, so I really want to experience those first few days with the next one! I want that bonding time.

We sent him to the nursery once a day, sometimes twice depending on how tired we were. It was always around 2 am and only for a couple of hours at a time. I could not sleep with him in our room cause I was constantly watching him or worrying about every noise he made so it was nice to know he was being watched and we could sleep for a few hours.

Nope it wasn't an option at our hospital. Nursery was only for preemies/nicu babies.

I don't think I could have slept anyway, I was on such an adrenaline rush after labor. I tried to let DH sleep. and we only stayed one night.

no, we didn't want to. i am an extremely paranoid person and i didn't want her out of my sight! i think adrenaline got us through those first 2 days in the hospital because i had a very long labor and finally delivered her at 3am, but i just couldn't let her out of my sight- i stared at her all night and morning! plus i wanted to start off breastfeeding on the right foot and feed on demand and do lots of skin to skin.

Before I had the baby I thought I'd want him in the room the whole time, but I ended up with a long labor. Since I hadn't slept in ~60 hours I really needed rest and sent him to the nursery. I was still woken up a bunch to feed him and get my vitals taken, but it was better than nothing.

We only live about 5 minutes from the hospital so my husband went home to sleep in a bed instead of a chair. But I was hyped up about having a baby so I had trouble sleeping when she was right next to me so both nights I sent her to the nursery while I fell asleep. They brought her in a couple hours later to nurse and then she stayed with me. It was just what I needed to relax enough to sleep. I breastfed on demand and they didn't give her a bottle while she was there.

I did not. I did not want her out of my sight. I would have been paranoid and would have missed her too much! Plus I was big on skin to skin, no pacifiers and breastfeeding. Having her right there with me was the best way to make sure all that happened. The time I did send her away for tests, the one and only time without DH, her pajamas I had her in came back with poop all over and blood on them. I was terrified.

Yes!! Our hospital has a rooming in policy, is very pro bf'ing and only likes to have babies in the nursery when necessary. Which is great. But the 2nd night we were there (stated 2nights gave birth Saturday morning so it was 2 full days and technically 3 nights since I went into labor late Friday), I sent DH home to get sleep because I wanted one of us to be rested. Come 11 pm, LO stopped sleepily feeding every 3 hours and was wide awake and cluster feeding every 20 minutes. We were battling a bad latch, my nipples were bleeding, and by 3 pm I was so exhausted I was panicking - and alone. So I called my awesome nurse and she came in and I was sobbing and she explained the cluster feeding was a 2nd night phenomenon but if I wanted to sleep they would be more than happy to take him to the nursery for 3 hours. After making her promise me I wasn't a bad mom and that moms do this all the time, I let her take him (and promptly sobbed when he left and called DH and made HIM promise I wasn't a bad mom lol). But just those 3 hours of sleep were glorious. They didn't bottle feed or anything - they put a card on his crib that he's EBF - and that brief separation didn't ruin bf or anything.

So yeah, feel it out but don't beat yourself up if you need a break.

A lot of hospitals are jumping on a new breastfeeding initiative and don't even supply babies a pacifier if parents ask (unless they are in the NICU, and then it is used for other purposes). So hopefully that won't be much of a concern. It is too bad the bad experience some people have had with the nurses. When my floor in the hospital isn't busy I will help out in the nursery and they do pick up the babies if they are crying and they 100% stick to the parents wishes on feeding.

I sent LO just for an hour so they could do an assessment and bath. Otherwise she was cluster feeding so I was pretty much feeding her non stop. We were running on adrenaline anyways and really didn't rest too much.

I think your plan to see how you feel is a good idea. You never know really how you are going to feel.

I did! I wasn't planning on it, as my hospital did rooming in. They only have a special care nursery, but they will take your LO there if you request it. We got ready for bed, wheeled her little bassinet right beside me, and as soon as we shut our eyes she spit up a ton. She started choking, and it freaked us the freak out. I couldn't sleep after that... I just kept staring at her. Next time the nurse came, I asked her to take S for a little while. Getting just those few hours of sleep was WONDERFUL. The nurses actually took her a few times over the course of our stay, and getting those few hours of uninterrupted sleep really helped us to be more in the moment & enjoy those first few days with her more. I wouldn't have slept at all if she stayed in the room! I won't hesitate to ask the nurses next time. Sleep is so, so important those first few days when you're healing and hormones are going nuts.

FWIW, the nurses asked about bottles & pacifiers before taking her each time!

My hospital doesn't have a nursery, just a nicu, which is where my baby went and stayed for a week. It broke my heart to go back to my room all alone. I may have felt differently had I had a more positive birth experience, but I had planned to keep her with me.

I swore I would keep LO in the room with us, but I ended up sending her to the nursery (for a variety of reasons). They brought her back every three hours to eat and didn't give her anything (pacifier/formula) without permission. I still didn't get great sleep, but I know I got more than if she had been in the room...I would have stayed up just to make sure she was breathing :)

@Arden: Agree with your pacifier advice. I wasn't worried about the nurses giving bottles but every time LO was wheeled in, she had a pacifier in her mouth. I didn't mind but if you don't want your LO taking a pacifier, I would make sure the nurses know that.
