Nope - our hospital doesn't have a nursery for well babies and I didn't want to part with DD anyway! I had a shared room so DH couldn't technically stay the night but he stayed through most of it both nights and then went home during the day to get some sleep and shower. I was also able to sleep when DD slept so I never reached that point where I needed a few hours of uninterrupted time to sleep and recover.

LO did hang out with the nurses for a few hours so I could get some sleep on the first night, I was exhausted after being in labour for almost two days and was feeling pretty overwhelmed.

For number two I think I'd like to go home straight away so we can sleep together and have a better start to the feeding and bonding process.

From what I hear from other moms, our hospital doesn't really take baby away ever. You have the baby 24/7.

We sent her to the nursery both nights we were there and will do it with all future babies as well. I sense a lot of judgment attached with sending the babies to the nursery. We sent her with trained, licensed professionals not random 12 year olds playing video games. We were so exhausted that she was better off in their care for a few hours any way. The nursery was centrally located so I could hear if she was crying and they brought her right in.

Our hospital doesn't have one, although they will lt you talk it to the nicu if another baby is the already. I think other than that they require a parent with th baby at all times.

I had been planning on rooming in, but then after 3 days of labor I decided that I absolutely needed the rest. On the second night we tried to keep the baby with us, but we ultimately sent her to the nursery again b/c she wouldn't sleep without us rocking her bassinet, and we needed the rest again. I also was terrified of falling asleep and not having anyone watching her. The scariest thing in the world was the 1st night at home when we had to just fall asleep and hope that the baby would be fine. (Of course she was just fine...)

Our hospital has a nursery but they really encourage keeping the baby in the room. DS didn't leave our room until he needed to get his tongue-tie clipped.

Kinda? Our hospital didn't make this option very plain to us, so we didn't know to exercise it. They did offer to take him a few hours before his scheduled newborn screening and we did that. But they balked when we said no pacifier and threatened to give him back if he screamed!

No, I couldn't bear to be away from either of my babies! With my first it wasn't an option since I gave birth in my midwifes birthing center and with my second I was already upset because of the whole c-section that I wasn't about to send her away!

With DS, yes. For about 3 hours...they fed him formula there and I don't remember agreeing to it because I wanted to EBF but I was on Percocet so maybe I did? I was loopy. With DD, no. She stayed with one of us the entire hospital stay and I learned not to take Percocet.

Mine didn't have one, just the nicu. I think it's kind of outdated, all the hospitals I toured (several) said that they'd done away with them. My baby was in the nicu anyway. I wouldn't do it with a future baby unless there was some medical reason, or I had a complication, and my husband couldn't be there to help. But it would kill me. It broke my heart to walk away from her in the nicu when she was there in her little box. God, it makes me tear up just to remember it.

With our first we didn't until the second or third. Can't remember. With our second he had to go to be under the phototherapy lights. We had so much free time we didn't know what to do with ourselves! They only brought him back to nurse every three hours for 30 mins and right back he went. He didn't come back to my room until the day we were discharged. We had almost forgot how to change a diaper bc we haven't changed one the entire time until the last day!

I couldn't bear for her to be away so I kept her with me the three nights I was at the hospital (I had a cSection so I stayed for 4 days). In hindsight I probably should have since DH couldn't stay with me in the shared room, and having to roll over to grab her that first night with my legs still numb, catheter still in, and stitches hurting was not great. Then again hopefully next time I can have a VBAC.
