We waited until we knew the gender to talk about names and then we went round and round. I think we finally decided around 32 weeks. We did refer to baby by her name after that privately but kept it a secret until she wwas born. Even before we found out she was a girl, we knew. We just agreed on a girl's name when we found out I was pregnant and kept searching for one we liked better that we both agreed on. But there were none, by comparison. By the time we knew she was a girl, we were set on calling her by name. The middle name was hard...very hard. And they both have a lot of options - Alexander for a boy (Alex, Al, Lex, Xander, and Zane) and Charlotte for a girl (Charlie or Lottie). So my baby's name doesn't have much chance to NOT fit. And for some reason, if I'm pregnant now, the pregnancy name is Pond. As the first thing out of my mouth when I noticed multiple implantation symptoms was "Come along, Pond!" There is a chance that we may decide on something completely different when we see the baby anyway.</p> <p>Personally, I don't like babies in utero being referred to by the name the parents plan on using after birth. No offense to anyone out there who does that, but I just find it really weird and it sort of creeps me out. My SIL did this all throughout her pregnancy once she found out the gender and it drove me crazy. We're Team Green but even if we did find out the gender, we still would not refer to it by the name we planned on using.
