We had our best friends over for cake the weekend after her birthday, and that was it! On her birthday, we went out to lunch and to the beach, but it was just me, DH, and my dad, so it was super low-key.</p> <p>I'm actually very happy we didn't do a big birthday party. I doubt we'll do one for DS either. DD had a bigger party for her second birthday (with both sets of grandparents, aunts, cousin, etc...) and it was still kind of overwhelming for her. I made it really low key (a barbeque at the park) and long before we got to cake she was exhausted and whiney. I wanted smaller but dh wanted to celebrate with more family and friends and I let him have his way. But lo isn't a people person, so she gets shy around all of those people so I think she would have liked it better with less. You can still take adorable photos of LO without there being a ton of people around, and it will be a lot easier on you and the birthday baby. So I wouldn't only worry about doing a big party if it is what YOU want.
