I went a fair amount with my mom growing up too. once we could drive we seemed to stop going there, though I'm not sure why. I think we mostly wandered, maybe got a snack . . . It was the only other place for us to go if we didn't want to go to each other's houses. That was the only thing I could and was allowed to do. All we would do is walk around all the wings of the mall to see if we could run into cute boys, eat at the food court, and go to the Z. Caverichi/Marcus girbaud/guess stores (I'm showing my age on that one). My mom hated the mall and we typically only went twice a year. Once for Christmas shopping and once for back to school clothes. She'd never let us go there just to hang out. As I byproduct I now hate the mall and Amazon prime makes it even easier for me to avoid it! With 3 older sisters, I always had to tag along with my mom to the mall. I would roam the mall and look for gifts for my family. Although to the honest, I would mostly just go to the bookstore and read books while everyone else shopped.
