I was 1-2 cm dilated and 70% effaced at 34 weeks, I got checked early due to having some cramping. I was still the same at my 36 week appointment.

My doctor told me that she usually does not do cervical checks because dilation is just so unpredictable. She said she can check someone at 37 weeks and they will be at a 3, but still not have the baby til past their due date.
Or, someone can be at a 0 but still have their baby two days later. She said it's just not worth it to stress yourself worrying about whether or not your dilated! I am happy with this... no cervical checks make me happy! :)

I was 1 cm starting at 37 weeks, and I slowly effaced from 50 to 70% over the course of 37-39 weeks. In the end I went into labor 5 days before DD's due date, and I gave birth 2 days before her due date.

with my first, I was still 0cm (closed) at my almost 38 week check-up. but then I went into labor 3 days later.

with my second, I was 2cm dilated starting at 36 weeks. They said that was pretty normal for a 2nd time mom. I stayed at 2cm for almost a whole month... Finally went into labor 2 days before my due date.

Good luck!! You're almost there!!!

Not exactly sure, my 37 week appointment was cancelled, but at 38 weeks 4 days I was 2cm and had the baby on 39 weeks 1 day. The baby had been super low since 36 weeks.

It can still happen any time for you... lots of walking :)

@sulli301: wow... atleast you didnt have to wait for your labor to progress at the hospital!

@regberadaisy: yeah my belly is tiny but they tell me its just right. I think they just want to reassure everyone

@winniebee: wow well goodluck and in your case you actually dont want to dilate any further for a few more weeks.

So was your labor a lot shorter since you were already 8cm out of the 10cm? Just curious!

At 30 weeks, 3 days I was 1.5 cm dilated and 50% effaced - obviously not good then! I was stable at 31 weeks and they haven't checked me since so as not to disturb anything down there. I'm almost 34 weeks and haven't gone into labor again yet! (But, I'm bedresting).

@Mrsbells: Probably because they like to know how fast you progress. If you started out at 3 and then go to the hospital and it's still 3, they know you're not progressing. But if you start at 0 and go to the hospital at 3, they know you're in labor.

@Mrsbells: At 38 weeks I was dilated 3-4 & at 39 I was dilated 5 but still didn't go to the hospital until 1 day before my due date! I was dilated 8 & fully effaced when we went to the hospital. It honestly just made me more impatient once they said I was dilating & effacing!

Yesterday at my 37 week + 4 days appt I was 2cm dilated and 70% effaced and baby has dropped.
Last week at 36 weeks I was 1cm dilated and 50% effaced.

My SIL is 39 weeks and she is 3cm dilated but baby still has not dropped.

My OB told me I was making good progress for labor! hahha I feel like if you're not dilating they tell you it doesn't matter. If you are they tell you good job. Just like my stomach is SO much smaller than everyone but they still tell me it's "perfect". That perfect range must be huge!

I saw my OB yesterday I'm now 39 weeks and 4 days. and she checked my cervix for the first time {which wasnt half as bad as I expected} and told me my cervix was still closed and nothing was happening. A lot of people I know start dilating days or even weeks before baby came. How long before your labor did you start to dilate?
