@lemondrop: Yes. Im very happy with the Mirena. Insertion was just a quick pinch and an hour or so of light cramping. That's about it. Ive had no issues, don't have a period... it's been fantastic. I've had it for 2 years. I think it gets a bad rap, but everyone I personally know that has it loves it.

While breastfeeding, yes. We used condoms. Since a pregnancy scare in December, we double up the pill and condoms. I can't afford an accident!

Nope. We use the Creighton method of NFP. I liked not relying on temping during crazy sleep with a newborn and was glad to be able to use it while BFing.

Yeah, I struggle with this, and for now we are just using condoms. I felt so much better after I went off the pill before ttc, so I really don't want to go back on it. We want to have kids relatively close- like in a couple of years-- so, breastfeeding and condoms for now. We did nfp with charting/ temping for a few months bf ttc, but I def cannot do that now with not sleeping.

I do not trust breastfeeding alone as birth control- too many stories.

I hear a lot of negatives about it, but it is also one of the most used forms of bc, Mirena is probably the route I'm going to go. I do NOT want a third pregnancy any time soon!

I am struggling with this so much right now! I feel like every options sucks so bad. I really really hated BCP and that makes me also wary of any hormonal option (i.e. shots, mirena, etc). Before I got pregnant I was using a LadyComp (fertility monitor, so basically NFP with tech) and loved it, but you have to get at least 5 solid hours of sleep every night for your temps to be accurate and I know that is not realistic on an every night basis for a good long while after LO is born. I'm nervous about a copper IUD because of the horror stories of it impacting or migrating, and also the people who say they just bled forever with it. Condoms suck and to be totally honest I'm just not sure we'd actually use them if we committed to that as a "method."

Which leaves the option of the "pull out method" which worked for us for a year (used during fertile time while using LadyComp) until the first time we had a miscommunication about what time of the month it was and he did not pull out and I got pregnant. So on one hand it makes me feel like the method was working pretty well for a whole year since I never got pregnant until he didn't pull out. On the other hand, I got pregnant the first/only time we ever "messed up" and mess-ups happen! And considering that I apparently got pregnant really easily it makes me feel like we should use something more reliable than this.

So I honestly have no idea what we are going to do. Right now I'm leaning towards condoms until I'm sleeping well enough to use the fertility monitor again... but ughhhh hate. I really can't wait to be done having kids so my husband can get the snip and I never have to think about birth control again.

I struggled with which BC option to go with and ultimately decided to go with none. *But* I have PCOS and it took a ton of medication to get me to ovulate. I'm not super worried about an oops baby and if it happens, it does (we want another) and I'll get my tubes tied after (because I'll probably be a repeat C.) I just flat out told my OB I wasn't interested in BC and she just warned me that you can have oops babies while BF-ing and that was that.

I also react badly to hormonal birth control. We pull & pray and occasionally use condoms. Eventually, DH will get a vasectomy but we are waiting 2 years to make sure we don't change our minds about being one-and-done.

I knew I wanted the copper IUD. I can only take one kind of hormonal BC pill due to migraines, and I had a bad reaction to it when I tried before. I had the IUD prior to LO and knew it was convenient and I like that it is non hormonal. Plus we don't want another baby for another two years.

I can't take hormonal birth control... it makes me go a little crazy! I have charted my cycle in the past as birth control and then to conceive, so I plan to do that again postpartum. When we are certain we are done having children my husband will get a more permanent solution

ETA: I know it can be trickier to chart postpartum, especially before my period returns, so we will likely use condoms as well.

I am already stressing about this for after my LOs are born. I've never been on BC except for a terrible 6 months on the pill in college. We just used condoms until we TTC. I do not want to go the condom route again though because I'm worried we were only so successful at using them before because I was infertile. But I'm worried after pregnancy everything will have changed and I'll get oops pregnant. I don't tolerate the pill well though and I'm afraid I'll be bad at taking it. Again I just don't want an oops. These two inside are all the babies we need!

It's non hormonal. I absolutely didn't want any hormones, not even the low dose in the Mirena. From the things I read about the copper one, periods tend to be much heavier and crampier. I've had mine almost 2 months now and I had heavy bleeding the first week after insertion, then period-like bleeding about 6 weeks later. I'm EBF right now though, so I'm not sure what's going on. I'm going to give it at least 6 months though. If it doesn't work out, I don't know what we will do since we aren't ready for any permanent measures yet.

I did struggle with choosing between a Mirena and a copper iud. I knew I wanted and iud, but didn't want anything hormonal. However, most of what I have heard about copper is negative. In the end, I opted for copper. So far, I'm still on the fence about it.

Nope. At the time we were both set on not having another kid, but didn't want to make any permanent adjustments, just in case we changed our minds later (I've since changed my mind, and D is slowly starting to be open to the idea, eventually). We didn't want to risk a surprise baby, and I didn't want to have to risk missing a pill/condom breaking/forgetting it/ovulating early or later/etc. I got an IUD because it really took almost all of the risk out of my hands.

Not I because I don't take any hormonal BC and refuse to have an IUD. Our birth control has always been condoms and tracking. PP it just had to be condoms until I got my period regularly.

@mrsjyw: ugh! Dd sleeps way more at night than DS did, I wouldn't be surprised if af is back sooner rather than later. I know nothing about charting or anything so I don't know if it would be good for us, even though that's what I'd prefer to do the most!

@matador84: I am in the same boat as you. I opted out of pills or other birth control. We plan to just use condoms or pull and pray. We do plan to have more but after little E is one, which will be feb 2015 (we will ttc after his first birthday). I took BCP before my first and my body reacted poorly, and I am terrified of IUD after reading about BeeBugs problems.

I had the Mirena in between these pregnancies and I really liked it.

After my OB told me that she accidentally got pregnant while BF and before having a period I was not messing around with that :silly:

We were in the same position. I kept telling my dr that I will think about it. Finally at my last appt I told her just to give me a prescription for pills. I HATE pills but I didn't want the injection or IUD. I never filled my prescription until recently I have been feeling crappy so the thought of being pregnant entered my mind so then I went and filled my prescription. This happened Saturday and I already missed yesterdays pill. I figure if we want to try again, it's easier to just stop taking the pills.
