I was a straight B student putting in absolutely no outside effort and I was satisfied with that. I studied for ONE test the whole time I was in high school (and it wasn't even that big of a deal...). In University I was really not all that much better. My studying usually involved just doing the readings that I never got around to doing when they were assigned. If I didn't feel that I put in the most effort possible and got a bad grade I was really disappointed in myself. I worked myself silly in highschool and university! I always did my homework and tried to do a good job, but when it came to studying for tests or quizzes, some subjects came more easily to me than others and required less studying. But subjects that I struggled with (Physics, History), I studied hard because I wanted to get a good grade. Although probably not as hard as some people - I was always an A-/B+ student, which was good enough for me (and my parents). I never studied all that hard because I did pretty well in school without trying. I was never a GREAT student, just top 10%, which was good enough for me. My parents were probably pretty disappointed... Plus, I had to study in order to do well on exams. Even when I studied I didn't always do well on them. Arg! Now that I'm finishing my graduate degree, my abhorrent study skills are really killing me. I don't know how to study, and even if I did, I don't have time! I have very academic-minded parents and was doing quite a bit of homework over my summer holidays as well :p My high school was super competitive, so not doing homework wasn't really an option! They would always say, "Imagine how well you could do if you actually applied yourself!" My parents and I both expected straight A's and I probably over studied most of the time. I expect my kids to study a lot but I'll make sure that they study smarter and grow up more active/well rounded.
