I normally shed a lot because I have a lot of hair, but this was unreal and I had to clean my drain after every shower. It does grow back, but usually on its own cycle, so more gradually. My big sister though said her hair was never as thick after her first baby than it had been before. They all kind of sync up, so when they are due to fall out naturally, everything tends to fall out at the same time.
