I do only occasionally when baby gives a particularly violent kick or moves painfully--like, "Really kid? This is how you treat your mother?!" DH then freaks out and quickly moves in to whisper to my belly: "Don't listen to her, Daddy loves you!"

They're already conspiring against me!

I tried to, but always felt silly. I had no problem narrating what we were doing once E was born, but I just couldn't get into talking to him in utero.

I do! But Not usually full on conversation. I always acknowledge her though when she kicks me and talk to her. @rachiecakes: We have our songs that I always sing to her. I know those songs always have sentimental value to me! DH will talk to her sometimes to like one sentence or something.

Yep. Not a ton, but I do. Actually this post reminded me to say hi because I haven't talked to him/her in awhile. DH talks to my stomach on occasion, too. I sometimes read books to the bump.

I tried to but I always felt a little silly--I'm not a big talker though. But I'd read to it all the time! DH talked to my bump every night before bed--telling him all about his day and to be nice and let me eat/sleep/stop kicking so hard.

I've been given the same advice, to talk to the bump, often, and to play music. every time i try to say something, the only thing i can think of is "so.... whatcha up to? How are you doing? ...... oh, youre tired? ok." LOL i have NO IDEA what to say and feel really silly about it.

The hubs and I do read to her at night, and we chat a lot btwn the two of us, so hopefully that counts as the same thing as talking "to"her......

I forgot-- I do give the baby pep talks sometimes, or advice, I guess, like "just stay in there for 6 more months. I can't wait to meet you, but not until then". Or at my last midwife appt I got my 12 week screening results and they were very good, so I said, Good job, baby!

I definitely don't do a running commentary or anything like that, but I have been rubbing my belly and saying a few words before bed. Mostly just "hope you're getting nice and comfy in there" or "I can't wait to meet you!". I'm only at 14 weeks so maybe when there is more of a bump and I feel some movement I'll talk more!

I do! Not all the time, but every day. At 26 weeks with lots more kicks making his presence known, it has started to feel more like he's my little guy in there and less awkward to talk to him. DH gets close to the belly almost every morning and night to tell him he loves him and to be nice to mommy!

Yes! Like @RachieCakes, I would sing to BabyGloss a lot in the car. And there were definitely songs she would jam to! :). Just do what you are comfortable with. You will bond in your own way. :)

I did but not always. I don't think it's necessary for bonding on the baby's part, but it was fun for me. :) Also..I didn't really do it til I was at least in the second trimester, although DH did kiss my (bumpless) belly before then!

When my wife was pregnant, I did something called "Baby Evening News" where I would recount anything interesting from the day directly to the bump just before we went to sleep, with the idea that because he had experienced it from the inside, I should provide some kind of "context".

I don't know the science of bonding behind it, but I'm sure that our four-month-old recognised my voice pretty quickly after he was born, even if it was probably as "That Guy Who Wouldn't Shut Up"!

Yep! Especially in labor! Through contractions I would tell her how great she was doing, etc.

One of my favorite things was when my MW would check the heartbeat and after getting it she would tell me "talk to your baby" and almost immediately there would be a jump in her heartrate. It was neat to see her react to me! <3
