2nd degree tear, but I don't know how many stitches. It seemed to take a while for everything to get sewn up down there...

@Rainbow Sprinkles: I know it really isn't funny but I actually laughed out loud at that. Ow!
I never understood the diff between second and third degree tears-- babycenter cleared that right up.

@Crumbs: same here, I didn't care and just wanted him out!

Second degree btw, it got better after a few weeks. Buy the expensive toilet paper for a while. Ice packs and sitz baths were very helpful.

@FutureMrsMcK: I absolutely agree, once I healed, all things were better down there! Way better!

Second degree that healed fine and two internal tears that got infected and pulled apart in my second week pp. I thought I was being a baby about it and waited to get it checked and ended up with emergency surgery two days before we were moving out off state. Very stressful though starting to feel better now. Hopefully any preggos reading will learn from me and not ignore their body telling them something's up!

@Smurfette: that's what I was most scared of too - well, postpartum in general. birth lasts hours and postpartum is much longer, yet no one really talks about it! but I can 100% tell you after laboring with no epi (got it at 10 cm, they didn't believe me in triage that I was moving as fast as I was) and having a really bad tears that it's 100%++ worth it and you forget it so fast! Even when I was hobbling around my house for the next couple weeks I didn't think, all things considered, that it was terrible. It's so cliche, but your baby is so worth it!! you'll be awesome :)

One small tear and one small stitch. The soreness only lasted about a week and a half, and I only needed motrin. I never used any ice packs or anything else. I was definitely lucky! I was really scared about tearing/being stitched up, but I didn't feel myself tear and I definitely didn't feel the stitch.

I don't think so. After I delivered LO, the doc said, I don't think you'll need any stitches. But then after I delivered the placenta, she said, I'm going to put 2 internal stitches in.
I'm so aware of how lucky I am! I didn't need an ice pack/motrin/anything for pain...couldn't believe it! My doc did perineal massage during the last few pushes and maybe that's what helped.

Woah, 30+ stitches, you ladies have my major sympathy. I had a few little skid marks, one stitch. Even that was a painful little sucker, so I don't even want to contemplate a whole vagina full of them. I pushed for hours, too, and my baby had a huge head.

I just had a couple of minor internal scrapes, no stitches required. I only had 3 real pushes, & my dr said that she was worried I was going to "blow" if I had many more pushes. A chilling image that I'm glad she waited to share with me until after delivery.

I had a second degree tear but have no idea how many stitches it required. I didn't't feel the tear happen, nor did I feel the stitches afterwards, which was nice as that had been one of my biggest fears! Recovery wasn't bad either - it hurt to laugh and sneeze for a few days but by the end of the first week, it was all fine.

oh yeah. I also got the "oh it's not bad..it's one long stitch" from my OB so I'm not even sure. I wasn't brave enough to look until a couple weeks later (the PP nurse warned me not to!). I was sore until 12 weeks PP!

the PP nurse mentioned it being 2nd degree perineal, but I also felt/saw stitches along the labia (inside), sooo..idk!

but it does get better :)
