I tested positive, and like pps, had an antibiotic IV during labor and delivery. As long as you take antibiotics, it shouldn't pass to the baby or harm LO at all. It's actually pretty common, and it's not something to worry about too much.

@JustlikeHeaven: yes exactly! don't worry...it's a quick quick swipe on the outer areas....not even a millimeter of insertion....or for me at least.

I was negative, tested at 35 weeks. I know that a positive test is no drama, they just take necessay precautions.

I tested positive at 8 wks (though, doctor suspected it could have been urine contamination). Nonetheless, I went on an antibiotic course back then. I'll get retested and get the IV of antibiotics during labor, but that it should not present any difficulties/complications.

I tested positive but I found out way earlier...I can't remember when exactly but it was during one of my check ups with my OB. She told me it was somewhat common and nothing to worry about. It did not harm my baby at all...all they do is (if you get an IV) they just hook in some antibiotics so your baby has less of a chance to get it. Nothing else happened in my case. Baby was healthy and mommy completely forgot all about it! :)

I didn't test positive, but I wouldn't worry too much if I did. As long as they know, they will make sure everything's ok.

I spiked a fever during labor and they now know that the reason is because I had Group B strep! They test you so early on in pregnancy so I had no idea until well after I had the baby. The only thing is that now it's in your system, so when you have another baby you'll have to have antibiotics in your IV during delivery and the baby may have to be monitored in the NICU after delivery. If you're concerned I would call the doc's office and speak with a nurse.

haven't tested yet, but i did hear about 40% of women test positive and usually it's fine because they take precautions. i wonder if they will do that testing if i go the c-section route.

Anyone test positive for Group B Strepococcus? I believe doctors test around 35-37 weeks of pregnancy. For those that had positive results, did it harm your baby at all?
