@ScarletBegonia: I cry when I throw up and get super embarrassed. Like if I think I'm going to throw up I'll turn on the bath so no one hears me. So my husband and mom have never ever heard me throw up. But so I don't know if they will get sick seeing me get sick. Why us??? Seriously the worst phobia to have!

@anonysquire: I think I remember reading that you had the same phobia in the March 2014 thread. I'm really trying to psych myself up to not caring if i throw up or not! My phobia is completely me-related - my husband is a massive puker and I've totally gotten used to it.

I had morning sickness my entire pregnancy. Infact, it was so bad we had to induce a week early. I thought I was just going to be a big pile of miserable laboring vomit... didn't even get nauseous!

This thread is freaking me out! I too have a vomit phobia but more with other people. And now I'm afraid if I throw up, my husband or mom will throw up. I'm really seriously considering doing this whole birth thing alone with the midwives only. No family!!

I hate throwing up (who doesn't?!) and I did throw up once (maybe it was twice?) during labor. I definitely felt nauseous more than once. It was no fun, but it was less awful than I thought it might be beforehand. It's just something that happens; you note it and move on. The nurses will tell you it's a good sign of progress, so that's the silver lining, I suppose? And there is too much else going on to really worry about it - hard to imagine before you're in the middle of it, but it's true!

Yep. I threw up when labor started, some time in the middle of labor, and while pushing. It sucked.

Yes after every push I had the little cup ready for me to dry heaev in. I think it was nerves/lack of food/exaustion/pain all wrapped into one. I also got a fever so it could have been that.

No, but I came pretty close during pushing! They had me pushing hard during and in between contractions and it was very physically straining on me. I managed to keep it together though thankfully since I also hate throwing up!

Yup. Before the epi I was having contractions with no breaks. I tried a narcotic to take the edge off until the anesthesiologist could get there and it made me sick. Then I threw up after he was out and I was delivering the placenta.

@Mrs. Pen: My mouth and throat were so dry and I was desperate for water but they told me I wasn't dehydrated because of the IV. They told me I couldn't have water and could only have ice chips (which were nice, but not what I wanted). I kept letting them melt enough to get a sip of water, and D kept sneaking water into the cup when the nurses left the room :)

@lovehoneybee: yeah I had a saline drip too. After awhile the OB finally told the nurses not to let my have any more water because it was just making it worse! So they upped my IV instead. I still passed out after delivery though; I think it was due to many factors but I'm sure the dehydration played a role.

ETA: my mom said to also avoid any rich, savory dinner. She had a steak/potatoes dinner just a couple hours before having my sister and regretted it! lol! I knew I was being induced that day and ate yogurt, granola and frozen fruit bars.

@Mrs. Pen: Ugh, I'm so sorry you had a similar experience, but I'm glad I'm not alone! And yeah, it was with every contraction! They had me on a fluids IV for hours after I delivered because of it.

Pro tip: If you even have an inkling that you might be in labor soon, probably avoid Chinese food.

@lovehoneybee: You're not an anomaly - sounds a lot like my experience!

I threw up with literally every. single. contraction. It was so, so awful. I was extremely dehydrated as a result, and I would chug water, which just intensified it when a contraction hit. But like others said, it was nothing compared to the pain of the contractions.

@wonderstruck: I've never heard that! I had morning sickness until 18 weeks, so I guess that makes sense that I vomited my entire active labor.
