We've been all over the US and into Canada. In high school, my parents took us to Europe 3 summers! It definitely opened my eyes and I have great memories. We went on at least 2 vacations every year. I'd say we traveled maybe 2-3x a year. I traveled a lot throughout Asia as a young toddler/preschooler because I was raised in Taiwan and those places were relatively close by. Once we got settled into the public school system here, we would do family trips at least once a year - but usually local road trip places to Big Bear, Lake Arrowhead, Mammoth, Palm Springs, and Vegas. Two big trips that I remember was one to Maui, and another was a cruise to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. I got a lot of travel done in college and the first few years after graduating though. So although we didn't go to a lot of far flung, exotic places (because there were 6 kids and two adults), we did fly to go visit our extended families every Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Summer.....and usually work in other random trips from there. I grew up in remote West Texas and had traveled to California, NYC, DC, most of the east coast southern states, and Edmonton Canada (to see the biggest mall in the world) before I was 10. Lauderdale every year, where my grandparents lived for the winter. I have wonderful memories of our time on the beach and at the pool, walking to the little ice cream shop, buying bushels of oranges... so much fun. We also travelled around the US for family weddings, reunions, things like that. Every 4-5 years we would go to Thailand, where my dad is from. My kids travel way more than I ever did as a kid! I started traveling at the age of 5 and would go somewhere big every summer. I remember going to Nevada, Colorado and Aruba. At the age of 10, I started going to Europe and doing cruises to the Caribbean. I also went to Disney several times, to the beach many times, and to the mountains many times. I loved to travel, and I want to take my kids lots of places too. In the summer, we used to belong to a pool club and that was where we spent the summer. We also did trips to places like the Cape and Jersey Shore, which where driving distance. My favorite memory from the trips is getting a roaring campfire going in the evenings! We would catch crabs during the day and eat them for dinner. We also took a big trip to Japan to visit my relatives the summer between 3rd and 4th grade. I have a million memories from that trip, so I'd love to take the kids overseas in a few years. Once we hit 6th grade or so, we got really busy and weren't able to go on trips anymore. At the time I preferred that, because family trips were really stressful with all the kids squeezed into a station wagon. Looking back though, my memories are all of where we went - not how we got there. Did you travel a lot with your family growing up?
