My dad is a professor and attended statistical conferences around the world, and my mom only worked per diem, so she could take off whenever she needed for as long as she wanted. We traveled every other summer to Taiwan and spent the summer until we left for college, and in the off years, we always attended the conferences with my dad, which were both in domestic and international locations. It was pretty awesome! We even lived in our VW months for several months in Europe. They gave the bus to us a few years back (see photo). We will carry on the tradition. We went to national parks and did lots of camping, but when we were younger. It tapered off when my sister was HS age and got into cheerleading. They always went to destinations like Hawaii or New Mexico and left us with Grandparents and alone when we were older. My Dad was a travel agent. They travel a ton now. It was a pretty incredible experience, and makes me wonder if we'll ever be able to do something similar with our kids.
